Harbinger #3 (1992) first appearance of Ax

Post by greg »

I was just informed that Harbinger #3 (1992) is flying off of ebay today because it was announced that Ax will be in the Bloodshot movie. I still haven't seen the announcement.

That character doesn't really seem like the kind of character with long-term appeal ... this sounds like a good time to sell.

Or hold. I just keep on holding.

I heard a while back that Chainsaw was going to be in the movies also (VH2 Bloodshot 2). Is that not the case anymore?

Evidently the announcement was an exclusive to the Key Collector Comics app. Ax is being announced as a major villain in the Bloodshot movie.

While the Ax (@X) of 2012 Valiant is very different from the Ax of 1992 Valiant, I think there's a good case to be made for both first appearances, since Nick Fury of Marvel 1960s doesn't look anything at all like Nick Fury played by Samuel L. Jackson.

Harbinger #3 from 1992 isn't a super easy book to grab, unlike Harbinger #15 (1993) with the first (version of) Livewire.

I also wouldn't be surprised, much like #15, if we don't see #10 going in the same fashion, as that is the first HARD Corps

It makes sense to introduce the concept of psiots in the first movie. Gotta check the database to see how many I have, I know at least one or two.

My guess is that we'll see both Ax and Chainsaw. (No Uzi the Clown) :-P

I hope they take inspiration from the beginning of VEI's Bloodshot and include Gamma and the Nursery.

Based on everything I've read, I'm a little surprised they are going with the original Valiant universe narrative of Bloodshot and Ax, and not the VEI versions. Sounds like Bloodshot will be based on the Angelo mobster origin and Ax as a villain.

I personally like Ax as a villain better, since they seem to lack the longstanding villains in VEI. But I preferred the VEI Bloodshot origin and Ray as a character more. Was definitely more relatable and sympathetic than the monster origins

Makes sense to me that they'd go with VH1.

Esp. since Vin Diesel's already played a very similar role origin-wise, with "A Man Apart."

Also - incidentally, my favorite pre-Unity book is X-O # 6 (vs. Ax) where Aric finally just steps out of the armor and beats him with his bare hands.

I'm not convinced by any of these articles that read like there was one line of actual news ("Vin Diesel will play Bloodshot") and the rest of the article was copied from Wiki after a Google search for "Bloodshot".

There is no reason to think anything on screen in 2019 and later will be based on the 1990s versions. These news writers simply don't know the difference. Their copy-and-paste for old descriptions doesn't equate to studio confirmation.

Initially when the 5 movies were announced, there was an assumption that the movies would roughly follow the first three story arcs of the Bloodshot and Harbinger relaunches. That would entail the inclusion of Chainsaw. (That's why I grabbed the Acclaim Bloodshot issues.) I don't know if there was ever a confirmation that they wold be included in the movies.

Thanks Dan. I haven't added any new pieces in a loooong time. Of course VH1 OA hardly ever show up for sale now.

I guess anything is possible, but with Dinesh being involved (assuming that's still true), then the idea that the movie would be based off the 90s stuff seems far fetched. The original reported plan was to have a bloodshot movie, harbinger movie, and ultimately a harbinger wars movie. I'm sure some has changed since then, but I have no reason to believe it's moving away from VEI content. Just would make sense to have the movies based on comics from the current valiant team since they are directly involved with the production.

Also not sure I buy into Ax as a villain in it at this point until something more official is available. Like I said, I actually liked the villain of Ax from the 90s. He was different than the other villains, more pedestrian in his goals. But considering the VEI continuum hes not a villain, it would seem odd to make that change for the movies. Though until Rampage, Bloodshot didnt really have any VEI movie quality villains aside from chains assa w command

I too find it odd that the movie will have Bloodshot's VH1 origin and villain Ax along with VH2 Acclaim Chainsaw and then evolve to fit the VEI Bloodshot for Harbinger Wars. I guess we will have to wait and see. Just make the first movie great!
