One of the comic stores near me had a heap of comics on sale for $2ea (AU). I snagged a Quantum and Woody #0 American Entertainment Exclusive Valiant - signed by Priest and Bright with a certificate of authenticity. Couldn't believe my luck - have done some rough searches online but can't seem to find much about this book - anyone know the rarity / value?

cheers,

Congrats!! The Priest run of Q&W is one of my favorite comics series of all time so I'd buy that book at $2 all day long! I have no idea what the print run was. There's a seller on Ebay - ferndale4 - that seems to be selling unsigned copies in bundles of 10.

Thanks - yeah I've got the full run in trades when Valiant reprinted them :-)

Was stocked with my #0 - didn't realize it was signed at the time, so even better. :thumb:

The signed copies have always been about $5 comics before the past couple of years. I would guess they're more like $15 or $25 now, since they're probably the third most desired Q&W book from 1997-1998 behind #1 and #3. The #0 book was released between #6 and #7, if I remember correctly.

Fun fact: This book is part of the reason we know that the company trying to extort money from VEI in the beginning was Dynamite (sucks!). Right after the Acclaim sale to VEI, Christopher Priest announced that he was already in talks with the "other company" to bring back Quantum & Woody, and that he was excited because he had worked with them on Q&W under Acclaim.

There are only two products that are Quantum & Woody that didn't come from Acclaim, but they came out at the same time. The #0 from American Entertainment and the Quantum & Woody lithograph from Dynamic Forces (Dynamite (sucks!)). Since American Entertainment didn't exist anymore, the only company that Christopher Priest could have been talking about was Dynamite (sucks!).

Thanks Greg! I'm just happy to score a copy - don't usually see much Valiant floating around in Australian stores outside of run-of-the-mil cover A's so was pleased to pick up something different. :thumb:

If the 0 book wasn't from Acclaim, was it collected in any of the trades?

I had Priest sign my readers copy of 3 at C2E2. I was really happy.

It was collected in the "Complete Classic Omnibus" as well as "Quantum and Woody by Priest & Bright Vol. 1" Trade.

I do believe it just had to be ordered through American Entertainment exclusively.

It was still published by (hence from) Acclaim Comics and AE was the exclusive distributor.

yes that is true, it had to be ordered from AE exclusively..I believe the original price was 29.99 for the signed edition..
people used to order from them in the 90's alot, this was before ANY lcs that I went to offered any kind of discount off the cover price, so, if u were ordering multiples of some book, this was the way to go, because sometimes they would offer breaks on 3 or more..
does anyone know when they finally went out of business?

American Entertainment (1986-1996) became AnotherUniverse.com (run by Fandom) in 1996... then drama in mid-1998... Diamond, Marvel, etc.
