Re: VALIANT SOLD
I've narrowed it down to the following possibilities Greg.greg wrote:Who?nycjadie wrote:When was the last time you saw a Betty Book movie or story, versus Betty Book merchandise.
1.) Betty Boop.
2.) Betty Book: Excursions Into the World of Other-Consciousness (1937) by Stewart Edward White.
Allegedly, the latter is a classic in the genre of psychic research that is recommended for open minded readers. Who knew?
An online reviewer of metaphysics, mysticism, spiritualism, and spirituality known only as "Michael" wrote:
This is the first book published by Western Adventure author Stewart Edward White in 1936 based on his notes taken from 1920. His wife, Elizabeth "Betty" Grant proved to be an adept medium. With a small group of friends, including "Joan" and "Darby," they dabbled in spiritism from about 1919 until White's death in the mid 40s.
The book chronicles Betty's techniques learned while reaching out to the "invisibles" (their term for departed humans from beyond the veil) based on extensive notes taken by White. It is the first book on spiritism White authored, who wrote several more books on the subject (one posthumously), and it is evident that he took the subject rather seriously.
After the social trauma World War I, Americans were looking for more pragmatic answers the identity continuing after death than religion offered. Spiritualism was a very hot topic, and books on the subject popped up right and left. IMHO, most were outright frauds or fanciful imagination, but a few seem sincere and on to something.
Stewart E. White already had a successful career as an author, and didn't need the money. In fact, his small group shunned money and fame for their "studies," a fact I find quite refreshing. His books seem to be extremely objective, leaving the reader to decide the actual evidence, and reporting failures as well as successes in their so-called experiments.
What exactly Betty, Stewart and their small group of friends stumbled on to is most difficult to decide. In the end, I prefer to suspend judgment on their endeavors, but enjoy reading of their experiences and adding the possibilities to my world view of spiritual matters. I can recommend Stewart Edward White's books on this subject. I leave the facts for the reader to decide.
According to yet another online reviewer of metaphysics, mysticism, spiritualism, and spirituality, this time known as "Sverre" it "should be considered to be a primer for those curious about extrasensory phenomena" and " provides boatloads of vague, baffling and obscure instructions conveyed to Betty about how to maneuver through the divide between planes of mental and spiritual consciousness."

Re: VALIANT SOLD
Pretty sure he meant Betty Boop.
That's a pet peeve of mine. Girls, or rather grown women with Betty Boop stickers and bags and whatnot, but most of them have never seen a single Betty Boop cartoon. As a big Max Fleischer animation fan it irks me. I need to grow up.
To play devil's advocate, Dynamite (sucks!) recently put out a Betty Boop comic written by Roger Langridge and it's received good reviews.

That publisher's problem isn't with first issues. The problem is third issues... or fifth... or whenever they get tired of pretending to care. Valiant Summit: April 2018
Harbinger Wars 2.. May 2018
If the annual summit is still a thing under the new regime, we should find out a lot about what the rest of the year will look like, line up wise...

I'm pretty interested in how this will unfold, too. I think we'll glean some insights from the proceedings.agent_graves wrote:If the annual summit is still a thing under the new regime, we should find out a lot about what the rest of the year will look like, line up wise...

Re: VALIANT SOLD
I hear ya. I think the difference this time around is that while Shooter and Dinesh were the heart and soul of the initial launches for VH1 and VEI, Shooter was also the EIC and many of the original pre-Unity and Unity issues were his brainchild. When he left, he took the whole enchilada with him and the down ward spiral began immediately and irrevocably.iggy101us wrote: My initial feeling is ugh . . . not again.
Dinesh structured the company differently and played a different role. Not saying he didn't have a guiding hand, just that it wasn't the only hand that mattered. As long as the remaining creative structure stays the course, Valiant should be okay.

I kinda feel the same way when I see someone wearing a crucifix and I'm all "Bro! Did you even read the source material?" And then I smack them hard across the face. If they don't turn the other cheek, I know they're a fake fan and I smack them again on the same cheek.kinggirlfriend wrote:Pretty sure he meant Betty Boop.
