That would be awesome! Makes one wonder what kind of deal could be in place to allow them to use the GK3 without a license.
Good Morning, that's a nice tnetennba.

It was my understanding that VEI has always had permission to reprint older Valiant material, as long as Magnus, Solar, and Turok were not heavily-featured in the advertisements, etc. They can be "background characters" in reprinted materials without any special licensing necessary. There just wasn't any need for VEI to do so.

I agree but I think it'd be freaking awesome to have an Issue where some characters would encounter Turok in like, the Faraway for a couple pages. He'd be there, being his bad-*SQUEE* self, shooting huge T-rek from afar with his rustic bow :D

Solar/Turok are both in the XO Manowar Classic Omnibus. So I think Greg's right.

Looking forward to a nice oversized hardcover.

Solar also appears in the Archer And Armstrong omnibus.

I think Valiant just cares more about their current versions and they probably don't have the proper proofs of the older material to do them justice. I think it is why we don't have more reprints. Not everything had the GK3 characters.

You're right about them probably not having the proofs to do anything beyond basic reprints.

It seems like they are just being careful and slow with reprinting the old material. They've released classic omnibuses for A&A, XO, and Quantum and Woody, and the Ninjak omnibus is still scheduled for sometime this year. They've also released TPBs for the Quantum and Woody material as well as as a trade featuring the Garth Ennis and Ashley Wood run on Shadowman from Acclaim.

A Unity hardcover to add to that list would be great, though!

my guess is that they have to reprint it as "unity" in order to reprint the GK3 issues,
I'll buy one when it comes out, probably Unity chapters 1-18 w lost chapter..
The real gem would be finding Shooter's original script to Unity #1, which was unpublished due to his firing,
with bob layton re-scripting the issue..
I really want a nice HC for this one

At some point SonicDan has the original art from the scrapped Shooter Rai #0, so there’s always a chance that Unity script is out there.

Gold Key, publisher from the 1960s, 3 characters, Solar, Magnus, and Turok.

Valiant licensed those 3 Gold Key characters to start the Valiant Universe in 1991. They were always licenses, not owned by Valiant (and not owned by Dark Horse or Dynamite either, just licensed).

Right on. I know all about the "Gold Key 3", just never heard "GK3". I talked to Dinesh once about Savage being a Turok analog, Divinity being a Solar analog, and when we would see a Magnus analog. He said "Maybe you already have.". Wondering who he was referencing?

I'm definitely looking forward to a possible Unity omnibus/hardcover.

As for the Garth Ennis run on Shadowman, will that be worth getting? I've found Ennis hit/miss. Some of his work is the best I've read in comics (Punisher Max), while some are downright horrible (Hitman).

I personally liked it, but it's totally different from the other Shadowman stuff. The trade paperback collects the first four issues of the Shadowman series that Ennis wrote and Ashley Wood illustrated during the Acclaim years. It also includes the first three issues of Shadowman Presents: Deadside and the script for the fourth and final issue of that miniseries (which never made it to publication due to Acclaim going belly up). That miniseries is also illustrated by Wood (but painted rather than drawn) and written by Paul Jenkins. It would have been great if VEI would have actually brought in an artist to illustrate that final issue, but I can definitely understand why they didn't given that Wood has a fairly unique style.
