X-O still selling over 10,000 books even with issue #8 is a pretty good sign.

I agree this also means that reboots or restarts because the story calls for it will be here to stay in most casesPhoenix8008 wrote:X-O still selling over 10,000 books even with issue #8 is a pretty good sign.

I would have thought the Shadowman book would have sold a bit better.

I just don’t think their fans are also going to order books at the LCS. Wrong demographic IMHO to try to appeal to. The group isn’t popular enough to really have crossover appeal.Zhuge1 wrote:I would have thought the Shadowman book would have sold a bit better.

Let's not forget that with both the XO Manowar and Bloodshot, the pre-order numbers are not include, or have they caught up?
If they have caught up, and are including the pre-order numbers in their total count, it could be the reason the books are doing so good
If they haven't caught up, and STILL are not including those numbers, you could add maybe another couple of thousand? Maybe?

Probably need to keep this in mind for all books, weather they are low or high, it's just a guess by themDinesh wrote:11k is not accurate at all. It’s far too low. Those numbers that circulate are not official nor are they remotely accurate. X-O Manowar is a sales beast.

Re: VALIANT OCTOBER SALES ("ETERNITY #1" TOP BOOK)
I totally agree and understand that, but I thought the idea was that this book would create some sort of crossover appeal and draw in Rae Sremmund fans to Shadowman somehow. I assumed there would be some sort of marketing towards those fans in order to help drive the sales of the book. Perhaps these figures don't include other avenues that those fans could potentially buy the book?kinggirlfriend wrote:Nobody who isn't already into comics is going to walk into an LCS and buy a comic book.Zhuge1 wrote:I would have thought the Shadowman book would have sold a bit better.
If it doesn't result in any sort of additional exposure for Shadowman (and thus Valiant), it just seems like an odd crossover given that it probably doesn't do much in terms of expanding their exposure to potential new fans (particularly since it only sold just over six thousand copies), and I'm not sure that the book contributed that much to the Shadowman storylines.

I would think Rae Sremmud would have a merch booth--and this book would be offered---but I'm surprised the numbers were as high as they are... the art was gorgeous--but who didn't look at it and think 'bad gimmick.' If marvel or dc had done this, I would not have picked up the book.
It might also stand to have a bit of life the more popular Rae Sremmud gets and their fans start coming back for it. I hope they make a cameo in the main series--just so that it's not this odd one-off.

The original post has been asked multiple times (that I can remember) to Dinesh, and this answer is the best I've seen so far. I've got not a clue as to what the numbers are. I don't know if those numbers are actually known....jmatt wrote:If so, then where can we find the actual numbers?TheeBaldMoose wrote:Guess I should have known. (estimated based on data from Diamond Comic Distributors through OCTOBER)
All comic retailers order through Diamond. What each publisher actually gets printed, and what shops actually order. I assume would be different. Also, any overseas sales wouldn’t be included in these numbers....

That's a bit of PR on Dino's part. True, ComiChron has never claimed to be the exact number of purchased books, however, they are the closest we will get. Their estimate is based off of Diamond's sales rate, which uses Batman as the base #. So it's not perfect, and only includes U.S. direct to retailer sales. No international, digital, or those reserved by the publisher. It's unlikely we'll ever get truly accurate numbers unless they come from the publisher themselves re: print run.

Who else is old enough to remember/notice when once a year, Marvel & DC used to have to publish their circulation data in their comics? This whole discussion makes me wonder why no-one has to do that anymore (caveat: I have very rarely bought any Marvel or DC comics in the last 5 years, but it seemed to me as if they hadn't been doing it for many years prior to ~2012).BugsySig wrote:jmatt wrote:If so, then where can we find the actual numbers?TheeBaldMoose wrote:Guess I should have known. I may be misremembering, but I think that had to do with magazine subscriptions. Magazine subscriptions and print runs were directly tied to advertising rates. It's different now, but back then they would lose money on subscriptions to boost numbers.

Unless they become a public company, I doubt we will ever know. Even then, only basic profits/expenses would be shared and not book-by-book data. Without something like ad rate being tied to publication numbers, there’s just no incentive to publish those numbers. Regardless, Diamond/Comichron numbers still seem to be good predictors of what titles are thriving and what titles are doomed to be cancelled. Following the New 52 back in the day, there was almost a direct correlation. So while we may never know the exact numbers, it’s still informative.

Re: VALIANT OCTOBER SALES (
If I'm not mistaken, the publication of the distribution info was required in order to qualify for a certain postage rate, which was required due to subscriptions. Since comic companies generally don't have a subscription service any more, no more requirement to publish that info.jeremycoe wrote:I may be misremembering, but I think that had to do with magazine subscriptions.
