X-O Manowar Retrospective

Post by otomo »

I periodically do journalism and commentary, and I'm happy to have been able to write an article for a multi-time Hugo Award nominated science fiction/fantasy site on the recent X-O Manowar relaunch. I was able to pull from a lot of my reviews of the old X-O stuff that I've read and reported on my thoughts here recently. Hopefully this will get the character in front of some eyes that won't see it regularly. (a lot of comic news can be pretty insular). They usually focus on classic adventure sci-fi, pulps, like John Carter of Mars, that kind of stuff. I actually think X-O really fits in with that style of reading. Here's my article:

I'm obsessed with this book and want everyone to read it. Tempted by some of the full runs of the old series on ebay... Any experienced folk -- is it as good as the opening arc all the way through?

Acclaim (video game company) bought Valiant in late 1994. By 1995 they tried to make a lot of it into Image. X-O probably took the worst turn.

In this case, it IS probably fair to judge a book by its cover(s).

Does that mean it was good up through about issue 40 or so?

I wouldn't say it was good by today's standards, very average for the most part after Unity. The issues after 50+ were dire facepalm

Yeah, I really dug the book up until around there too. I'd say the first 25-30 issues are definitely still worth checking out.

My wife likes to draw stuff too, and she is better than me! [I'm very proud of her]... https://www.facebook.com/pages/Sara-Dec ... ref=stream" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Pol Bekhara. Feh. This was right when they decided they had to erase as much of Shooter's stamp on the line as possible. Office politics killed VH1. What a travesty.
