So I guess know we have an idea of what the conflict in Massacre will be.I guess Outcast kills Cronus. Looks similar to the Outcast design we saw in Book of Death except this character has a skull helmet. He's got the cape, and the grey leather skin like Outcast.

Gotta say... I'm pretty stoked for all of these! Even Faith, which hasn't been my jam, sounds pretty darn awesome.
can you elaborate? I'm having a hard time seeing where there could be beef with this lineup.nonplayer wrote:You'll appreciate me keeping my comments to my self at this point.

Re: VALIANT ENTERTAINMENT AUGUST 2017 Solicitations
I'm not speaking for anybody, but as has been expressed here recently, I think some are upset about the plethora of 4-issue mini-runs.
My opinion is that the mini's are obviously just a new marketing strategy that they're trying in order to give prospective fans as many new jumping-on points as possible. I'm fine with it because I want Valiant to grow and reach as many people as possible.
Also, we probably need to remember that any of these mini's could become longer runs if they are very successful. That precedent
has been set already.

Disappointed we aren't seeing any new deluxe editions. I'll check back in next month. In the meantime, I'm not paying $16 for a 4 issue miniseries in single issue formats when you can get the superior trades for $10 at instocktrades. If we aren't going to see more deluxe editions, I'll switch to trades.

Divinity #0 is the sole 'floppy' I'll be getting.
That said, I'll be picking up trades of the following when they come out:
XO Vol .2
Rapture
Faith and the Future Force
Harbinger Renegade vol.2
so a pretty good slate of books for Aug

Re: VALIANT ENTERTAINMENT AUGUST 2017 Solicitations
I don't really get the hate for the mini-series. The minis serve a valuable role as the test kitchen for new titles. I don't think they can afford to jump into ongoing series lightly, and there's nothing worse than a series being cancelled prematurely. 4-issue minis allow them to try out different characters in self-contained stories and hopefully avoid a massive drop off in sales that most ongoings eventually suffer. Plus some of the greatest things VEI has done are minis, like the Valiant for example. The Future of Valiant will probably come from miniseries.
The problem really is that there are fewer titles than usual. If we had most of the tentpole characters in 6-8 ongoings per month, plus 4 miniseries, it would satisfy hardcore fans who feel like we are missing out, and also allow them flexibility with new titles and smaller stories.

Re: VALIANT ENTERTAINMENT AUGUST 2017 Solicitations
THIS is exactly the problem. Not that they are doing mini-series. But that there are only 7 titles coming out that month, with only 2 of them being ongoings!! While there are 4 mini series and a one-shot!!Thegreatmagnet wrote:The problem really is that there are fewer titles than usual. Re: VALIANT ENTERTAINMENT AUGUST 2017 Solicitations
Well it looks like Valiant has realized all of this and is actively trying to rectify it. Within a year we're going to have ongoings for X-O, Ninjak, Harbinger, Bloodshot, Eternity (is basically an ongoing with breaks if you see it as a continuation of Divinity), Quantum & Woody, Shadowman, and probably a couple more, all going on at the same time.Phoenix8008 wrote:THIS is exactly the problem. Re: VALIANT ENTERTAINMENT AUGUST 2017 Solicitations
"Within a year" could be part of the problem. We don't know that they're not gonna make the new X-O just a maxi-series that only runs 12 issues. I'm pretty sure Harbinger will keep going through next summer to be part of the Harbinger Wars 2 thing. But they could still take a few month break between each story arc like they did after the first one. I don't feel as confident anymore that their 'big tentpole' characters will have series that run more than 12 issues to give a sense of permanence and continuity to the universe.TheFerg714 wrote:Well it looks like Valiant has realized all of this and is actively trying to rectify it. I don't hate mini-series at all. In fact, the way Valiant structures their ongoing (4-issue arcs), every series may as well be mini-series.
That said, I'm not going to buy or collect them for $16 in floppy format when I can buy the trade. The floppies retain no value whatsoever as soon as the mini is over.

Re: VALIANT ENTERTAINMENT AUGUST 2017 Solicitations
In terms of monetary value, what difference does it make if a floppy is part of a mini or an ongoing?
Not sure I understand your rationale, unless you just don't buy any floppies at all.

Re: VALIANT ENTERTAINMENT AUGUST 2017 Solicitations
This reminds me of the discussions about movies.
We can watch them on the first day for $15.
We can watch them on the 60th day for $10 or less (since it's probably in a different/cheaper theater).
We can watch them on the 150th day for $3 or less (Redbox, etc.)
We can watch them on the 1,500th day for free on TV with commercials.
We can choose not to watch them at all, ever, for any price.
At no point does the studio change their plan based on the fact that some eventual customers will vocally/textually object to paying $15 on the 1st day.
They expect a variety of responses and wait to judge their success long after the first month. Publishers do the same.
