Good interview with Eric Heiserer about SW.
His enthusiasm for the project is awesome, considering the guy is an oscar winning screen writer.
So much great stuff coming out this summer. What a great and fortunate time for me to have jumped onto this band wagon.
It's clearly a blind squirrel/nut situation.

When Warren walked him over to my booth at Wondercon he was super super cool.
And he was very excited for his book.
I'm a fan of his. Great guy

Good interview. Looking forward to Secret Weapons and I hope it gets a continuation in some form just based on his passion for the characters. I hope the execution lives up to his passion.

I read an advanced preview of SW #1 this weekend. It is excellent. Loved every panel of every page of it.

Re: Heiserer on Secret Weapons
This setup of "discarded" psiots joining together as a team is really such a great idea. The more I think about it and see of the previews, the more I am looking forward to it.
I also noticed that the colorist on this book is making some really bold choices with the pinkish tones everywhere. Pretty cool.
On a side note: call me crazy, but I think this property has the best chance at being Valiant's real ticket to a successful movie universe. It is just a fantastic concept in my opinion.

Re: Heiserer on Secret Weapons
I'm still very excited to see what everyone thinks of this book when it comes out.
Really cool to hear him mention interest in writing a Doctor Mirage story, I'd love to see that happen!

Raul Allen does all the art, penciling, inking and coloring. Similar to Kano. If you haven't yet definitely check out his art on WRATH OF THE ETERNAL WARRIOR, it's amazing!Gafti wrote:I also noticed that the colorist on this book is making some really bold choices with the pinkish tones everywhere. I think they/he might be saying "here is a female lead character role, she's tough, and kicks arse, but we are not going to make an addenda out of this. Splash some pink, let it be subconscious, chicks kick butt too.kinggirlfriend wrote:Raul Allen does all the art, penciling, inking and coloring. Similar to Kano. Re: Heiserer on Secret Weapons
Strong black female lead, one of the most original takes on the x-men/harbinger idea, and written by an Oscar nominated writer? Yeah, sounds like a dud. What's not to love?
In terms of other media, specifically film, I could see SW as having the most mass appeal for all the reasons I just listed.
This writer is a game changer in my opinion. On top of that, have you heard him talk about Livewire? The guy is incredibly excited about the character and this project. When a guy with these kind of chops is this passionate about a project, you know it's going to be great.

Re: Heiserer on Secret Weapons
This is what has me the most excited for this series. I've been hoping for a Livewire solo book since To Kill a King. Now, not only are we finally getting one, but it's being written by a guy who absolutely loves the character. The knowledge that Heisserer was writing the Harbinger screenplay and had to constantly remind himself that Livewire wasn't the protagonist is just so cool to me.Gafti wrote:On top of that, have you heard him talk about Livewire? Re: Heiserer on Secret Weapons
I would have to agree in that the idea of useless superpowers hasn't been used much in Hollywood (in a serious way, at least...there was Mystery Men, but I can't think of any others) and could avoid VEI properties like Harbinger from being lumped in with X-Men and the like. At least as a spin-off option after Livewire is introduced in Harbinger and/or Bloodshot movies.

Re: Heiserer on Secret Weapons
After looking at the preview again, I guess it's not just pink tones, but more of a monochromatic style of coloring going on. I love what I've seen so far. I need to check out more of Raul Allen's work for sure. I can't wait for this book.kinggirlfriend wrote:Raul Allen does all the art, penciling, inking and coloring. Similar to Kano. Re: Heiserer on Secret Weapons
Allen has a very unique style with a very limited set of mostly matte colors (very light and dark), however, it seems that he does use a lot of different colors but only a few different colors per panel and page. The pink-ish tones add some contrast and brightness and sometimes Allen uses pink for things that normally aren't pink (e.g. blood, the sky, or just random backgrounds). Pretty cool!Gafti wrote:After looking at the preview again, I guess it's not just pink tones, but more of a monochromatic style of coloring going on. I love what I've seen so far. Allen hasn't done a lot of interior art yet but what he's done is pretty amazing:
- Wrath of the Eternal Warrior #1-4, 7-10 (<= The Labyrinth....epic! Wrath is epic! It's a pity this series doesn't seem to get the deluxe hardcover treatment!)
- Bloodshot Reborn #5 (the Bloodsquirt interlude)
- Ninjak #6
- some short stories and propaganda pics in the Plus Editions of Rai #1 + #5 (his first interior work for Valiant)
- plus a lot of (variant) covers.... e.g. Ivar, Timewalker #1-12
Allen's insanely talented... what this guy can do with 2-3 colors only is amazing.
