Board Opinions: Is there anything worth reading in VH2?
I know it's ancient history, but the Q&W buzz has me wanting to complete my VH2 runs from a collector standpoint. From a storyline standpoint, was anything an entertaining read? I vaguely remember liking the Solar and Master Darque stuff, but haven't read much else.

Re: Board Opinions: Is there anything worth reading in VH2?
Yes we have gone over this time and time again over the last 10 years there are good stories in VH-2
Bloodshot 1-16 was outstanding
Magnus 1-6 was good also
X-O was good to start like 1-4 with Sean Chen drawing it and like Magnus became a mess fast the art was fractured after it and just never recovered
Ennis on Shadowman #1-4 with Ashley Wood art is gold after that uhhh till #16 it became readable again
Trinity Angels #1-12 was fun but didn't belong in the Valiant Universe
Ninjak #1-12 was Great fun (to me) I loved it the characters were fun and the series had real heart it was just such a detour from the original Ninjak some couldn't look past it
Solar all the quarterlies were good
Eternal Warriors quarterlies had good moments with decent art but still felt like something was missing
Troublemakers I was never a big fan of this book
Turok the quarterlies were good (for the most part) the monthly only went 4 issues and wasn't very good
Q&W was pure gold the best that Acclaim had to offer.

here is what i liked.
all Master Darque was good. Darque passages and the One shot.
Armories was better than VH1 Armorines.
SM 16-20 was real good.
SM V3 1-6 was great.

Re: Board Opinions: Is there anything worth reading in VH2?
After joining this board, I've read, for the 1st time, some entire Acclaim title runs, and I've found that Bloodshot, Master Darque, Q&W (incl. The Goat), Concrete Jungle and Dr. Tomorrow, in particular, were quite enjoyable. I certainly didn't feel my time was wasted on those, which wasn't the case with many more recent comic titles (or novels).

Q&W is a must read. It's my favorite VH2 series. I've read Shadowman and thought it was excellent as well. Haven't read many others. If VEI comes out with new TPBs of the VH2 titles, I'd buy them and read them.

I believe as of now, the only VEI trades covering the Acclaim material are the Q&W by Priest and Bright trades (which collect the full Q&W run from Acclaim) and the Shadowman by Ennis and Wood trades, right?Intrepidxc wrote:Q&W is a must read. I've read about Doctor Tomorrow and would like to see that in a collected edition -- sounds like it would be an entertaining read.

Bob Layton had the final issue taken from him because he wanted to kill the character in issue #12 but Acclaim didn't want that to happen so Jeff Gomez (the editor) took and wrote the final issue Keeping the character alive. So take it for what it's worth I feel like since Layton wasn't able to finish his version what's the point

Re: Board Opinions: Is there anything worth reading in VH2?
Yep, combine this with the others observations. Except I liked Troublemakers better than Ninjak (sorry BTE!) The quarterly special issues were generally their best.myron wrote:Pretty well sums up VH-2 ...betterthanezra wrote:Yes we have gone over this time and time again over the last 10 years there are good stories in VH-2

Operation Stormbreaker
Armorines has a Starship Troopers vibe IMO & of course Armorines #4 has a ridiculously low print run for a non-variant comic.
Master Darque/Darque Passages
Shadowman 16 thru V3
Deadside was good but #4 was sadly never published
and I always wished Unity 2000 was completed but others didn't care for it.
Nio (a Rai based character) was pretty weak
The Harbinger one-shot was...different.

Q/W - best stuff in Acclaim. Rivals some of the best books I have ever read. Don't compare at all to any other Q/W stuff. Different animal. Best at the beginning. Messier in the re-launch - but still quite good.
SOLAR - essence of the Acclaim stuff. Parallels to the essences of Unity in VH1
Bloodshot quite good through.
Dr. Tomorrow - excellent concept. Cool idea. Good writing.
Magnus up and down.
X-O up and down throughout.
Turok... Messy.
Shadowman up and down. Didn't really care for Ennis stuff.
Trinity Angles and Ninjak were tripe. Missed the audience completely. Reason that BTE said he liked it.
All are worth a read for the perspective.
