Re: Valiant casting for secret project??
Agreed on all points, DBS - whether or not this is what current Valiant fans want to see on-screen, it is a huge stepping stone to greater things. Its going to be a big boost to general awareness of the characters, and that is nothing but good for VEI.DirtbagSailor wrote:Most likely this is an opportunity to visually display Valiant IP to a HUGE slice of the population who otherwise might NOT have either been exposed previously, or even aware of what Valiant has to offer.Phoenix8008 wrote:Interesting, but not the news I was hoping to hear. Is this the only big announcement coming from NYCC, or is there more movie/tv news to come? If this is it, then I'm slightly disappointed. Also, will this series of videos be canon for whatever cinematic universe VEI eventually creates? Will these be the same actors to play the same roles later on? This is another area that I hope VEI copies Marvel in - keeping the cinematic universe and the TV universe in the same canon/same world. Unlike DC, whose new movie Flash is invalidating the seasons of love I have for the TV Flash on CW.
Here's hoping.
These videos pull about a million views, and even if only 1% of those views lead to the creation of new readers and fans, that is an additional +10,000 people.
Additionally, while stories are great, investors, financers, and producers generally would prefer to actually SEE a character in action, as well as the general public response to that character in action before committing resources to film projects and development.
We saw Deadpool, Harley Quinn, and Superman/Batman concepts on YouTube before we saw them on the big screen
This is that step.

Re: Valiant casting for secret project??
I get real nervous when I read this, because it makes it sound like it's just going to be a bunch of fight scenes with a paper-thin Excuse Plot tying them together. Or, in other words, Super Power Beat Down with a Valiant paint-job.And that the miniseries will run 6 to 8 episodes and will follow Ninjak as he is on the run and fighting various major Valiant characters, including X-O Manowar, Faith, Bloodshot, Divinity, Timewalker, Eternal Warrior, and one of their newest characters, Savage.
Not that that's necessarily a bad thing. Valiant really needs to make a mainstream splash, and a hit YouTube channel like Bat in the Sun is a decent way to do that. I just can't help but want a little more, since, as mentioned earlier, there's really no chance of Bloodshot and the VCU kicking off in 2017.
And I'll be honest, Bat in the Sun's got a knack for fight choreography and a ton of passion, but they can really use any help they can get in budget and writing, if you get what I mean.

Not to be a downer, because I do think this sounds cool, but this is starting to feel like the movie deal with Sony fell apart. Or maybe someone at Sony wants to see something to make them more comfortable with moving forward with a feature film? They haven't exactly been churning out blockbuster hits in recent years.
Of course, I could be completely wrong and this is just a fun side project to help build interest in things to come. Hard to tell with Valiant being all cloak and dagger about everything thus far.

you are completely wrong. It is putting characters out there in a viral-style web way to create more anticipation for the movie releases which are AT BEST a year or two away. Let's not create something where nothing is there.Funcha wrote:Not to be a downer, because I do think this sounds cool, but this is starting to feel like the movie deal with Sony fell apart. Re: Valiant casting for secret project??
Ed, do you have inside knowledge to base this "year or two" away on? If not, I don't see them happening in that timeframe. No way a movie is ready to release in less than 2 years with almost no industry buzz. Production schedules for film are such that it's impossible to keep everything hush hush. Release in less than two years would require them to be finished with pre-production and in the middle of actual production. Post-production and marketing for films can take a year or more, especially if there are many effects.paradise wrote:you are completely wrong. I hope you're right, but it's beginning to feel like the movies might be in development hell. There is almost zero information on their production other than what VEI has released.
Even with the popularity of superhero movies, and Marvel in specific, some of the movies are hitting snags. The Inhumans movie is now not looking like it's going to happen and Marvel keeps adjusting it's schedule of films.
I'm not bashing VEI at all, and I can't wait for Valiant on the big screen. However, I see no indication that these movies have even started filming. Have there even been any casting leaks?

I don't have any insider knowledge, thus "at best". All your points are valid, and who knows what will happen. Either way that has nothing to do with the Bat in the Sun projectlorddunlow wrote:I am excited for this Ninjak thing though. I just don't see movies happening any time soon if at all.

I might be a tiny bit more optimistic just because VEI sells so low. I don't think all the books will sell 5 times as much but with these characters being fairly unknown, this might be someone's first exposure to the characters.greg wrote:Deadpool made $800,000,000 at the box office.Dallow Spicer1 wrote:Just watched one of these episodes for the first time, was impressed with the quality, over 1 million views too! Re: Valiant casting for secret project??
In this day and age that drop is impressively small for a new book run. I think it would have been incredibly smaller initially and seen a much larger drop if the movie didn't exist and/or wasn't as good.greg wrote:Deadpool made $800,000,000 at the box office.Dallow Spicer1 wrote:Just watched one of these episodes for the first time, was impressed with the quality, over 1 million views too!
