Absolutely no reason for this book to be getting speculated on. The only thing going for it is it is rare. So are hundreds of other Valiant issues. :?

With smaller print runs for issues 2-4, the 1:40 variants might be even rarer and Valiant could slip in a first appearance of somebody making them a better spec. I don't mind the heat on issue 1 by spec sites. It just makes our copies the rarer and more valuable.
Egad, a base tone denotes a bad age!

To counter your thought, I'd say there are reasons. Plenty of people are raving about Gorham's art. Divinity is the breakout character/story from the new Valiant. It's the rarest variant of the Divinity series if we estimate copies by ratios. If Divinity grows in popularity it should be hard to find. The issue itself has gotten mostly rave reviews.

Speculating value is 100% about supply and demand. Divinity #1 1:40 LaRosa, you'd be hard-pressed to find a 9.8 graded for less than $500, very hard. Raw, if you find someone willing to sell for less than $270 in top condition let me know. There are likely about 350 copies. Divinity II Sketch the ratios would suggest about 250. No, it's not an intro, but either is Archer #25. Since copies of the sketch are available for $50 or less, I get the potential there. Just because you're not interested, doesn't mean others won't be. The rare variants always carry value if there's demand. The question is how much demand will there be going forward.

Moreover, I didn't buy a stack like Jesse, so it's not to my benefit to push this variant the way it would if I had 20 copies stashed away. But, if the ratios indicate a close guesstimate on quantity, it wouldn't surprise me if this specific variant turns out to be the lowest print run of a 16 issue 4 part series. I could explain the math in detail, but basically if you're looking at 75-100 variants from 16 issues released over 5 years, odds are pretty good it will be the lowest print run, and almost definitely very close to it, if not. That speaks to both supply and demand, not just supply.

Well that, and, it's Myshka's origin.

Lol, me too. I still haven't pulled the trigger on that one yet. (Fingers crossed that DBS, is still sitting on a pile. :D )

Last year one sold on the CGC boards for $350. This was after it shot up in price. It will come down in price again. Having said that if it was Divinity #1 1:40 I could see the reason for speculation. People are always free to buy what they want however I find that if there is no real reason for something to go up in value then we often see it come right back down in value.

Your perspective has merit for sure. That's why they call it speculating :)

I just want to make sure I have a good stock of 9.8 candidates for convention signatures and submissions. What I intend is to build a perfect Divinity II set to compliment my Divinity set, and I certainly didn't want to pay top price for the 1:80 once people started talking as they do.

Will the price go up or come down? Likely. But I'll still make a ROI, and my set will still be on the path to complete.

20% of my 2015 income came from Valiant sales...
