If 750 HW2 metal books were produced, I haven’t seen them. It’s a very hard book to come by.

The gold books were typically printed in batches of 2000. The last several years, they have been pretty banged up by getting shipped from con to con.

If it is true that DMG allowed an over print of 750 copies of HW2 Metal 1:250....for me that begs the question: “Did they allow heavy over prints of other high ratio variants when they took over?” Some of the other ones that should be called into question are PSI Lords 1:250 metal and Glass Cover 1:250 Variants.

So after a week of phone calls and discussion, I have been told the following:

1. No brushed metal variant print run has exceeded 180-200(ish) copies.

2. Harbinger Wars II #1 (1:250 Brushed Metal) actual numbers have been grossly overstated. While I was NOT able to confirm that print run, pls see bullet point #1 above.

3. This information DOES match with the CONFIRMED 200 copy print run information we have for Bloodshot Salvation #1 (1:250 Brushed Metal) and Ninja-K #1 (1:250 Brushed Metal).

3. Comichron does NOT receive print run information from Diamond for many publisher (including Valiant); they receive ranked order based on reported sales, but NOT the actual sales numbers themselves. The numbers we see on Comichron are an "ESTIMATE" based on a formula/algorithm, and are often 4 - 15% LOWER than what the real numbers are (see also: WRONG). So a possible (yet still incorrect) rule of thumb (my opinion) would be to multiple Chomichron's listed print run for a given issue by +7%. YES, it is "wrong," but it is closer to "right" than we otherwise will have. It ALSO explains slightly higher confirmed variant print run numbers exist than what we initially expected/calculated.

4. Diamond's rankings/numbers include North America AND the UK.

5. Bullet point #1 would seem to apply to Shadowman #1 (1:250 Glow in the Dark) and (possibly) X-O Manowar #1 (1:500 Brushed Metal), though I am unable to confirm.

6. The Quantum and Woody #1 (1:100 Fools Gold) is 100% RARE! I do not have print run information or data to verify this, but was told by a reliable source that it is indeed rare. (DBS NOTE: This makes sense when you think about it).

7. Valiant audits/tracks high-end incentive variants, and has reportedly "tightened up" the variant game from where it was a few years ago (anyone remember the CRAZY high supply of A&A #5 (B&W 1:50) which now sells for $5.99?). As a result, 1:50s and 1:100s released in the past 1-3 years SHOULD have less visible defects and a subsequent increased CGC/CBCS grading potential for collectors. If true, this would also indicate that the older 1:50s and 1:100s are potentially HARDER to find in 9.8 condition, so best of luck in your hunt for that Unity #5 (Suayan 1:100) you have always wanted.

Thanks for the info DBS. Have you heard anything about the 1:250 glass variants? The only one that I personally own is L&DofTH glass 1:250. But, it would be interesting to know about any of those or any of the other variants that DMG has done to get a feel on how they are handling print numbers post Dinesh.

I’m glad to hear that they didn’t print 750 of HWll Metal 1:250. It would make you reconsider buying other variants if they were intentionally greasing the print numbers.

Great work! So, it looks like all the metal and glass variants are at about 200 or less.... except you are not really sure about X-O Metal... right?

Correct. I do not know what the X-O Brushed Metal print run was. Someone will need to ask Dinesh for that one.

We can reasonably suspect a similar number, but as it was the “first” it will be difficult to guess.

I recall Dinesh stating 200, but I can’t recall.

It probably is 200; I just can’t find anything that says as much.
