Re: Book of Death: Legends of the Geomancer
My LCS ended up selling me the LOTG for $24.95. As I stated earlier in this thread, this was the price they told me about when I checked in with them last week. Here's the deal though:
I recently opened up subs at this shop; mostly Valiant. I had been a Valiant buyer and have known the folks working there for some time prior to getting subs.
I put "Legends of the Geomancer" on my subs list and also explained the deal to them.
When I asked about the price, they told me how much it would run me and...get this..."We'll go ahead and put one in your box."
LOL!
Once I move out of state, I'm going over to DCBS or using Paradise. My LCS experience in AZ has been nothing but crap in regards to mark-ups and poor customer service ever since the Valiant relaunch.

I went to an LCS in New Orleans today and bought every issue of Book of Death I could find in the store. Then, I gave them all away to make sure they are in the hands of new readers.
Why?
Because Valiant.

Re: Book of Death: Legends of the Geomancer
I just got my books from Ultimate Comics.
Paid $40 for these 3 comics:
Book of Death Fake Poly Bag Ultimate
Bloody Variant
Legends of the Geomancer #1
Anyone else get these?
Great reading. It's what make Valiant so great. It's like they got the best of the original Valiant and just made it as good or better.

Re: Book of Death: Legends of the Geomancer
Legends of the geomancer £5.60 maybe £5.99 cannot even remember how much I paid.
This shop has tried to sell me pull box variants for same price (£5.60?) . 1 in 10 variants £14.99, so didn't even think about price when they said £5......
Another on the shelf, had a spine damage. Lucky it was on the new comic place, as after a week old they put them on shelves that do not fit comics ~ so anyone removing a comic ( and doesn't know) bends comic in half.
LOVED the stand covers matt and gloss really stands out. I mail ordered the charactor design variant, but prefer the matt/gloss covers.

I wish their was a Spinal Tap comic, and I had a copy CGC graded at 11.

Re: Book of Death: Legends of the Geomancer
I picked up my copy of Legends of the Geomancer yesterday. Got it for $20 which I was happy enough with. He also has all of the other variant covers (regular alternates and the higher priced ones) of the main Book of Death #1 which I'm thinking about getting some of, even though my $20 already paid for all those books for him. I'm not usually an alternate cover kinda guy though, so I'm not sure yet. Maybe next payday I'll pick up some of whatever's left.

Not looking for links, just curious as to whether anyone can confirm that this was made available digitally via illicit means pretty much when it was released.

Re: Book of Death: Legends of the Geomancer
It is not available at any of the usual places. This was also the case with Shadowman 13x
I'm actually pretty surprised at this, since VEI did send out pdfs to reviewers. The pdfs have a watermark on every page, though, so that may have put "scanners" off from releasing it. I'll keep looking for it. Otherwise, I guess I'll be waiting until October when Ed ships my order of all 4 issues. Total bummer that I can't join in the conversation after issue #1.
Actually, the fact that it isn't available at the most common places tells me there isn't much interest in the book outside of the crazy VEI fans, proving VEI just used us to bolster sales of another book. It worked well for them obviously
I'll probably check Usenet later. If it isn't there, it doesn't exist in the wild (at least not in any accessible way).

It appears to have worked but remains a very poor decision by VEI IMHO, and not one that I think or feel is particularly fan-friendly.lorddunlow wrote:...

Re: Book of Death: Legends of the Geomancer
I'm obviously not very happy about it, but looking at it from a business perspective, it obviously did what they set out to do. Fred Pierce as much as said they would do it again and other promotions like it (at the SDCC panel) since it seemed successful. I just hope they bring in enough new readers with each of these promotions to make up for the fans they will lose. That part of the equation remains to be seen.leonmallett wrote:It appears to have worked but remains a very poor decision by VEI IMHO, and not one that I think or feel is particularly fan-friendly.lorddunlow wrote:...

I don't think we've seen the entire fallout of this yet. Time will tell. I guarantee there are numerous retailers and consumers who have still not realized the full impact that #2-4 not being returnable or discounted will have on this promotion. We'll likely be seeing a ton of people who are pulled in as new readers with BoD, only to drop VEI once they try to get their hands on a book people are talking about and can't.
I was annoyed that I couldn't read Shadowman 13x digitally and that it was more difficult to obtain, but I could at least order it (as could anyone else). I got two copies. I scanned one so I could read it digitally (my preference). This book is making retailers a lot of money, but is not very accessible to readers, unfortunately. While I liked what I read, it is definitely not worth $2/story page which is what it is going for on eBay at the moment (although someone got a blank BoD cover, 1:20, 1:10, AND LotG for $40!!! - I would have definitely pulled the trigger on that Buy It Now).
At this point, I just really hope it does bring in new readers so that VEI is stronger in the market, but I fear it will not. I have yet to read BoD #1, so I hope it is a great read to hook the new readers.

Really? I thought when we were discussing it, they were not going to be discounted. I thought I remembered Ed saying something along those lines. I could be misremembering, or VEI could have changed the details. Either way, I think we're going to see #2-4 will be MUCH harder to get our hands on.jeremycoe wrote:While #2-4 aren't returnable, I think they are discounted.

As of that point in time, Ed said BoD #2-4 were not discounted AND a retailer had to order a specific ratio of their #1 order to qualify.
Like I said, VEI may have changed the rules since then, but I don't remember hearing about it.

Look at that link again. Ed said BoD #2-4 would cost about $1 each (if they ordered at least the required ratio). He said Legends of the Geomancer would cost the retailer about $2.lorddunlow wrote:Found it: http://www.valiantfans.com/forum/viewto ... 7&#p992674" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: Book of Death: Legends of the Geomancer
Actually, now that I re-read that whole part of that thread, it's a very confusing set of rules. They are only discounted to 50% ($1) if the retailer orders 65% of the BoD #1 order, otherwise there is no discount and they would cost $2. So, the retailers that went overboard on selling LoG #1 will have a harder time getting #2-4 for people than those that just ordered a regular amount.jeremycoe wrote:Look at that link again. I may be able to convince my retailer to order 10 each of BoD #2-4 and have copies to read on day of release...
Is there a limit, Ed, on how minimum orders of BoD #2-4 to receive the 50% discount? I'm quite sure my LCS only ordered 1-2 copies of BoD #1 so 10 would be well over 65% of 2...
