Can you pick a favorite of your Valiant collection ?
Do you a have favorite or could you pick one ? If so why, what is the backstory of it ?
I have few top contenders, but I'm not sure if I can pick just one. I have few with stories that mean something to me, so this is going to take a little more time before I post my response to this.

Mine would have to be the Shadowman TPB my dad had from when he was younger. He gave it to me and was the book that sparked my interest in everything Valiant.

My favorite is the two-part Patrick Zircher variant cover set to VEI's X-O Manowar #5. Party because it was a challenge to get the Ninjak cover, partly because I LOVE the image and partly because...Ninjak is featured in an awesome battle pose against X-O!
The "Unity Suite" ... in progress ...

The original Rai always struck a chord with me, and to put an exclamation point on it, I have a copy of Rai #3 that I refuse to let go of - at least, not until I can sell it for what I paid for it back in the day ($65 in 1992 money, so... well, I probably never will get my money's worth back out of it, so I'll just keep this one forever.)

I have 2 Harbinger 1 9.8s and a couple of raws, including 1 that I'm going to submit soon. That's probably the best in my collection. But, my favorite issue is Rai 0. I have many more of those (signed, 9.8s, raws, etc).

OG Shadowman #19 with Aerosmith. Used to work at a classic rock radio station as a DJ and just discovering that blew my mind as I was just getting back into comics. It's one of the things that drew me to Valiant. Happy to say I was able to find a copy in great shape.

That was almost gonna be my answer! I've actually got Bob Hall doing a special commission for me that will be an homage to that cover! But...I'd have to go with Shadowman #8, not because of Master Darque, but because that intro scene with the "blood runners" just really blew my mind when I was 13. It was so much darker than the other stuff (mostly Marvel) that I was reading, and the coloring on those books back then were just beautiful and really added to the atmosphere. That was the moment that Shadowman became one of my favorite titles, and probably one of the key moments that got me into Valiant.dornwolf wrote:OG Shadowman #19 with Aerosmith. Tough choice...any of my VfVss or any issue that someone gave me, like my X-O gold or a CEAR that happened to make it's way to me...

Re: Can you pick a favorite of your Valiant collection ?
This is a tie for me as well.
#1 is X O Manowar 14. This was my very first Valiant title. The cover had me hooked from first glance. This was the book that started my obsession with Valiant. It was also the first Valiant comic I gave my son, who in turn took it to Long Beach comic con and got it signed by Bob Layton!
#1 part 2 is Harbinger 0. This has been hands down my favorite single issue of VEI. It is the only book I have now read 7 or 8 times already. I have a copy of each cover currently signed by Dysart, Suyan, Crain, and Segovia which still needs a few more signatures but will never leave my collection obviously! Lol.
For this that know me that was tough considering my love of all things Rai, esp. Rai and the Future Force (that's right I said it! ) 22 which has one of the best and most meaningful deaths in comics!
Does that mean I have three favorites? Man thinking about it this list could get much longer. lol

Maybe my Harby #0, as I did send in my coupons to get it ! It was a hard promotion as I detested maiming a comic, but I so wanted that issue !

Several:
-Nord signed copy of X-O #1
-Dysart signed copy of Harby 1;
-A&A gold, since it was the first one. And it was because of "my" card set, I think.
-My pair of Harby golds, since they were won with effort.
-Mico Suayan designed Unity #1 with Gilad.
-Flamingo variant for Harby 7- a book I will never sell, if I don't really HAVE to. It's that special now, after #23. And it's beautiful to look at.
I'm also warming up to my GIN-GR variant for AH very fast.
Most of this stuff I only got thanks to Hawk. Blessed be that man!

rai zero. forever and ever.
one of the most distinct superhero comics ever made. still remember how i felt after reading it "no they didn't...! this completely changes the game regarding fictional universes".
i don't know if valiant wouldn't have just disappeared into that foggy nothing, where those other discontinued publishers and their fictional worlds have gone, if it weren't for this special issue. well, at least for me.

I have 8 VEI golds, and I earned them all through various contests or for promoting Valiant. That makes every one of them extra special to me personally.
I also treasure my Unity #5 Ninjak variant signed by Mico Suayan - this was given to me by Hawkeyeps after we guest-hosted OTV Ep 139 together.
Lastly, the Harbinger #1 1:20 Brathwaite variant remains one of my favourite VEI covers to date.

Re: Can you pick a favorite of your Valiant collection ?
Heh... when I was like 12 or 13, my grandmother took me to Jim Hanley's Universe in Manhattan and got me Harbinger #10, the first appearance of HARD Corps. She bought it for me. It was $10, and she was shocked that a comic would cost $10. Not sure it was worth it then, but I was a kid, what did I know?
Nowadays, I'm a huge fan of all the Deluxe Hardcovers. No story behind why, I just like reading the oversized pages, and having them displayed on my bookshelf.

Re: Can you pick a favorite of your Valiant collection ?
VH1 wise...
XO Manowar #1 key Valiant book, where it all started for the company's main character!
XO #15 the first Valiant book I ever read which I received free (can't remember how) but it was enough to hook me in!
Acclaim wise...none spring to mind!
VEI wise....
XO #1 first comic I'd read in 10 years plus...it pulled me back in!
XO #17 because I own a piece of art (pg 8) from that book (my only piece of original art so far!)
Harbinger #25 CBLDF variant signed by Dysart et al - a prize from the good folks at Valiant Podcast!

I've got a lot of great stuff but I think my crown jewel is this Clayton Crain Rai oil painted cover, not just because it's a stunning piece but also because Jkingman, Nonplayer and GrendelJD all played a part in making it mine. The value of the friendship this represents to me is priceless.
