Armor Hunters: Reading Order

Post by TheFerg714 »

Hello all. I started collecting Armor Hunters halfway through, and I've just been waiting to read the entire thing in one sitting. So now that the whole thing has been released (besides Aftermath), I was wondering what would be the best order to read them all in? I'm not necessarily looking for chronological order, or even the official order for that matter. I just want to gather a bunch of different opinions, and figure out which order would be best from there. Thanks guys! I'm getting so close to catching up completely!

There's a checklist in the back of the books.

Great question! I actually reread the saga by official checklist order and it was completely satisfying as a read that way :)

I've been reading according to the checklist order, and it doesn't seem like the best order. It seems like Armor Hunters: Bloodshot is way behind the rest of the books. And the story in each issue of Armor Hunters: Harbinger takes place prior to the issue of Armor Hunters before it on the checklist. It's not terribly confusing to read it in the checklist order, though.
I would agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

So I think it's safe to say that the prelude comes first, then the first month is pretty obvious with AH1, Unity 8, then X-O 26, and Aftermath obviously comes last. The only question is which order I should read the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th months. Someone said earlier that the AH: Harbinger issues usually happen before the main series, so I think I might do that. Any more info before I jump in?

If I am not mistaken, the checklist in the early issues actually changed slightly in the later issues. I made a photocopy of the early checklist and when I compared it to one of the later issues, it did not match exactly. I still need to read the final issues or the September books, but I wonder if it makes sense to just read each title in order. For example, read Armor Hunters 1-4 and Aftermath, X-O Prelude issues and then the 4 AH issues of X-O, etc.

Someday I would like to bind all the complete story into a HC volume, but I want to make sure I have the correct reading order too.

I've been thinking about this, and I've decided it would work best to read the main Armor Hunters series and X-O Manowar issues in chronological order, then the two miniseries separately in either order.

What about reverse order? that would add a Memento-style psychological thriller element....

Good thread imho. I was reading release order up through the second month, but then i got busy and haven't kept up. Now i am ready to read the whole thing through, but not sure about the order. Would definitely be curious about opinions.

Same here. I was playing catch up a few weekends ago on a lot of comics... Armor Hunters especially.
Because I read digital, it was a bit though for me going back and forth between the different titles. I agree with reading Armor Hunters & XO together and the others in any order.

I went through the Bloodshot straight through, then Harbinger.

It has already been established that if marooned on an island, Dunlow would be the first eaten.

So....... not sure if anyone cares but I have to tell someone, and my friends are the worst kind of comic fans.

I just read all of Armor Hunters in one sitting and it was fantastic! God, it was so damn good. It was so good that it makes me :censored: that I ever put up with Marvel events for so many years!
But that's beside the point.. I wanted to post what I think would be the ideal reading order. Or, at least, the order I'm going to read it in when I inevitably reread it. It's probably not the best order for people who haven't read it once, because the AH backups in X-O were a nice breather, and the slowly unraveling AH history was nice in context.

X-O Manowar 23-25 (Prelude)
X-O Manowar 26-27 (Armor Hunters/Primary/Malgam backup)
Armor Hunters 1
Unity 8
Armor Hunters 2
Unity 9
AH: Bloodshot 1
AH: Harbinger 1
Armor Hunters 3
Unity 10
AH: Bloodshot 2
AH: Harbinger 2
AH: Bloodshot 3
AH: Harbinger 3
Unity 11
Armor Hunters 4
X-O Manowar 29
AH: Aftermath

The only part I'm not 100% on is whether Bloodshot 3 or Harbinger 3 should come first.

What do you think?
