Parlez-vous Valiánt?
So my wife and I are wandering around Paris, France today. We're making our way from the Pantheon,
to the Notre Dame cathedral.
We're walking down a typically picturesque Parisian street when all the sudden my wife says "hey look at that!" It's a comic book store that we just happen to stumble upon!
I think I say something like "holy *SQUEE* *SQUEE*!", and glance giddily over at my wife. She says "well, what are u waiting for?!" and I rush in feverishly searching for valiant! I really didn't have my hopes to high to find any but was pleasantly surprised to see a few new trades on the shelf. They had a deal in the number one trades. Only 5 euros each. Further trades were about 12-14 euros each. Of course I walked out with a heavy stack! My first foreign language VEI Valiants!!:)

Some people spend their whole lives believing in fairy tales, usually because they don't want to give up the fabulous prizes.

Cool beans. When I was in Amsterdam in December, I stopped by a few comic shops. One of them did have some Valiant books, but they were the English editions. Would have been nice to grab some foreign-language editions.
If you're not a *SQUEE*, you're okay with me.

You have a cool wife! If we were on vacation and my wife spotted a comic book store before me, she would have steered me off in a different direction!
Looks like a great time and a nice addition to your collection.

Awesome! Good to know the French can read about kicking *SQUEE*. They sure don't do much of it in reality.

Re: Parlez-vous Valiánt?
Great story. Did the shop have any comic IP that didn't originate in the US? Is there a French or European universe of heroes we've never heard of here in the states? I ask because every one of those statues in the window looks to be DC or Marvel.

Don't you have a job?
Re: Parlez-vous Valiánt?
Hmm, I was in that shop two months ago and asked for Valiants. They didn't have any... Congrats on good timing Rufus. Can you see if those cheap #1s are "leftovers" or second prints?

Their european shop is on the other side of the street.jmatt wrote:Great story. Did the shop have any comic IP that didn't originate in the US? Re: Parlez-vous Valiánt?
I'll check tonight when I get a chance if they're 1st prints or 2nd.
Most if not all that shop (which is very nice I must say) is main stream American comic/pop culture. (Marvel, DC, independants, game of thrones ect). Yes, There was a second comic store right across the street but it was closed.

Re: Parlez-vous Valiánt?
Really nice photos and story, thanks for sharing.
Particularly liked the photo in the shop, wow they really have a lot of books there, and one with the window with all the statues.
Funny though, only a Valiant fan can travel to France and the highlight of the tour is finding more Valiants
I can totally relate.

Re: Parlez-vous Valiánt?
I looked all over the XO #1 trade and couldn't find if it's a 1st or 2nd print. it just doesn't say one way or another. i bought the 2 remaining xo #1's but there are more shadowman, bloodshot, and archer and armstrong #1's. and some 2's and 3's trades of each. they're out of harby #1's but do have harby 2's and 3's trades.magnusr wrote:Hmm, I was in that shop two months ago and asked for Valiants. Re: Parlez-vous Valiánt?
You should walk in there and ask "Do you speak German?" and when they say "No," you just say "You're welcome!" and walk out.
