What Did I just get in the Mail?
(First of all, sorry for the terrible lighting...)
Last week I had just finished reading every first volume of every Valiant comic, and needless to say, they kind of blew me away. I couldn't help but send fanmail. He emailed back asking for my mailing address. I replied:
"It's awesome to hear back from you, I'm 99% sure Marvel or DC wouldn't have said anything. I'm so excited to get into the universe; those sales really did work on me, Now the only problem is trying to get my friends into these comics..."
And this morning I freakin' got this in the mail!

^Is this one of those gold variants?

Re: What Did I just get in the Mail?
Fairly rare, but not super rare I'd say. Aproximate value for most golds is around $50 give or take. Only way to get them is gifted from VEI like you got, or given for good promotion of VEI, or given out at cons after a panel.TheFerg714 wrote:Are these like super rare?Dr. Solar wrote:That's a Harbinger gold book!

Not gonna lie, I would've *SQUEE* all over the place had I gotten the Vol. 2's, but this is just about as cool. Plus, now I can force-feed them to my friends!

VEI is really really good at a lot of things. Making fans for life out of people is one of those.

Re: What Did I just get in the Mail?
Having been a comic fan for over thirty years, the closest I've ever gotten to a one-on-one with a comic company higher up was 10 seconds at a signing or asking a question at a panel. I spent an entire afternoon with Dinesh, Atom! And Josh at Phoenix Con and they were just incredibly nice to me. They all treated me like a person, not a fan.Blood of Heroes wrote:VEI is really really good at a lot of things. Making fans for life out of people is one of those.
I only buy Valiant now.
I wonder what it would be like to be a lonely, muck-encrusted monster? Probably be an improvement.

Re: What Did I just get in the Mail?
So.. now that the dust has settled I have a few questions for you guys:
1. Should I read Unity 1-4 before I get to X-O Manowar 18? It's not really a huge deal if I get a little spoiled because X-O's not my favorite series, but I don't want to completely ruin my X-O experience.
2. How should I approach my friends with these? I'm keeping Unity, and I have 3 friends in mind.
-Zack doesn't read comics at all really, but he's an atheist like me, and a fan of satirical comedy, so I'm thinking Archer & Armstrong for him. However, when I was showing Berto a funny panel, he exclaimed he didn't like the art.
-Blake only reads Marvel, and almost refuses to read anything else. How do I get across to him that Valiant is just as good, if not better? He's a fan of Captain America, Deadpool, Spider-Man, Venom, and Van Lente's Hercules run. It should be known that he could care less about creators.. he's all about the characters.
-and Berto reads stuff like Red Sonja, The Darkness, Witchblade, and Catwoman. He seems the most likely to read it if I just give him a trade but he's also well-known for simply not reading things I've let him borrowed...
...Maybe it's all a lost cause... My friends suck as comic fans.

Congrats on the score, Ferg! Glad you've already experienced first-hand how awesome the guys at VEI are. It's a whole other culture of cool

When I first read A&A it reminded me a lot of Hercules before I even realized that one of the Herc writers was involved. Start him there.TheFerg714 wrote:He's a fan of Captain America, Deadpool, Spider-Man, Venom, and Van Lente's Hercules run.
