Love the art, but its a reminder to me of what a huge mistake it was to take him off Shadowman. He was born to draw that comic.

I agree, but then again, that wouldn't change the lackluster story thus far...SJS4 wrote:Love the art, but its a reminder to me of what a huge mistake it was to take him off Shadowman. He was born to draw that comic.

Re: Preview:The Death-Defying Dr Mirage #1
Does anyone else find it odd that VEI is only releasing a regular cover, a blank sketch cover and a Pullbox Plus Edition for this #1? Not that I am complaining, but where are the multiple Pullbox covers, the 1:20 and the 1:50 variant covers? Are we seeing a shift in the way VEI releases variant covers for #1 releases?

This looks like it's going to be sooooo amazing! I think Valiant should snag Sorrentino to do Shadowman after it returns from hiatus.

I think they tend to release fewer covers when it's a mini-seriesmkb28 wrote:Does anyone else find it odd that VEI is only releasing a regular cover, a blank sketch cover and a Pullbox Plus Edition for this #1? Re: Preview:The Death-Defying Dr Mirage #1
These are the best explanations I can come up with for the lack of variants
1) The confidence they have in the product.
2) The fact that its a limited series means it has less risk attached if it doesn't sell well
3) Its a good way to gauge the strength of the hardcore fanbase. 3a) And the strength of Mirage as a character moving forward.
4) Dinesh has expressed many times he doesn't like variants - he views them as a necessary evil. I think this might be an opportunity to go without them and see how well a series can do without variants and incentives
In any case - I welcome the lack of variants and incentives.
I think the 1st and 2nd issue covers are really beautiful pieces of work and i'm glad that there aren't other covers distracting from those 2 main covers. I might just buy 2 of each anyway.

Re: Preview:The Death-Defying Dr Mirage #1
I talked to Dinesh about the book and he is very excited about it coming out. I think the concern is more with how it will be received by comic fans outside of the Valiant fan base. I have read the book and I can say that the story and art are top notch. It's not at all like other books they're putting out on the shelves and is really what Shadowman should have been all along. I wrote a spoiler and image free review on my blog if anyone is interested. And while the previews are good, you're just getting the first few pages and they don't do the book justice.

They were handed out at the panel to everyone that asked a question, and the rest of the panel attendees could go pick theirs up at the cbldf booth afterward.bobby97801 wrote:Where do you find the SDCC variant? I'm not sure, but I wouldn't bet on it. VEI is friendly with them and I would guess that was just the table to get the book after the panel.bobby97801 wrote:Thanks... I LOVE this book. It is VERY different than anything they have done so far.
I'm looking forward to reading #2 almost as much as I'm looking forward to anything.
The basic concept is great. This book is full of emotion. And beautiful!
