Post by greg »

Only the SECOND known copy of an elusive Valiant comic has been located.

I'm about to drive home (for an hour or so), so I'll let you guys guess what that book might be for a little while.

I'll be back to post a picture and reveal the info. :thumb:

[EDIT --- posting scan]

Image

[EDIT #2 --- seller provided details]

Obtained from Electronics Boutique in 1996.
That particular Electronics Boutique was in Fair Oaks Mall in Fairfax, Virginia.

It was over ten years ago when the first (and only) other copy was scanned and added to our Valiant discussion.
http://www.valiantfans.com/forum/viewto ... ?f=1&t=186" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I just noticed this is messageboard topic #43,104 ... that was messageboard topic #186.

Here's the description of the book from 2004...
Steve Topper on February 16, 2004 wrote:Myron asked:
can you give any more info on the book...number of pages, pencils, etc...to give an idea of what's up with it?
I have it stashed away right now, but will dig it up this week and post more definitive information, but off the top of my head--

This is where it gets somewhat weird: the cover was from X-O Manowar/Iron Man, not Iron Man/X-O Manowar. It has Iron Man flying at you on the left side of the cover and X-O running at you on the right side. Again its the X-O/Iron Man cover. But the logo is clearly Iron Man/X-O. If you look at the original X-O/Iron Man a small red Valiant logo is above the X. But on this variant, the small red logo is above the O, just like it is on the Iron Man/X-O book. So I believe whoever published this thing took the cover image from X-O/Iron Man but used the logo from Iron Man/X-O. Confused yet?

Then, there is a vertical yellow stripe running the length of the right side of the comic. Inside this stripe are the words "GAME BOY GAME GEAR SEGA SATURN PLAYSTATION DOS CD-ROM".

At the bottom of the comic, there is a broad red horizontal stripe with yellow letters that says" VIDEO GAME NOW AVAILABLE."

The interior of the comic appears to be from the Acclaim X-O Manowar #1 Retailers Preview. It has B/W interiors. The first page is completely white, no artwork. The only things on the page is "X-O Manowar #1 by Mark Waid & Brian Augustyn, Shen Chen, Tom Ryder" in the middle of the page and in the lower right corner of the page is the following:
"Shipping in October from:
Acclaim Comics Inc.
275 Seventh Avenue
New York, NY 10001"

The first interior page of art is the splash page from X-O #1 (VH-2)in b/w. The indicia states this is X-O Manowar #1 Vol. 1 No. 1 October 1996 etc.

The back cover is a color ad for the X-O Manowar #1

Steve

Interesting! I should go check mine, but I'm sure I only have the common kind, because I got them off ebay years ago and didn't have to fight for them. So I'm not going to dig through my comic boxes in the closet to find out.

That's interesting you've only confirmed two...but, like someone else said, there's probably a few more out there somewhere. Still, it must be pretty rare! Maybe like just 50-100 copies or so.

For my Valiant: Kindle Worlds stories, check out my amazon author central page, http://www.amazon.com/Richmond-West/e/B ... 204&sr=8-1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Sort by price low to high, and the Valiant Kindle Worlds stories will pop to the top. :)

Epic find Greg!

I've not seen this book anywhere. But now since we have a photo and confirmation. We know what to look for.

These are really hard to find? Or can there be lots out there and no one just knows how valuable these are?

Are there any other books similar to this that we can look out for :D

I can't decide if we have attained the zenith or the nadir of Valiant comic geekdom.

That's an awesome find, Greg.

I have looked through TONS and TONS of comic boxes out here..... like TONS. I've looked through almost EVERY comic box at EVERY West Caost comic show for the last few years. Like almost EVERY!

I did not believe this book exists. I'm not saying that there are not more of these out there..... but I, and "we" have only found 2..... like in forever.

If Elveen cannot find it... it probably doesn't exist.

Next to X-O Manowar #15 1:50 Kotaki (Quantum and Woody inside) error. :!:
