Very cool sketch cover. I'd love to see him do something more with VEI than the one official cover to date.Intrepidxc wrote:I am very very happy with the sketch.magnusr wrote:Intrepidxc wrote:Got this Friday at Awesome Con. Based on a conversation I had I think he's looking for work on projects that allow him more creative license. Again, nothing he outright said, but when we were talking about the industry in general he kept referencing the importance of creative license.grendeljd wrote:Very cool sketch cover. Ah. I can understand that - it's probably every comic artist/writers dream to do creator-owned projects. It's the ultimate freedom if you get a chance to do it. I'm glad we are seeing a major trend in that direction for comics in general (Image being the champion publisher in that regard).Intrepidxc wrote:Based on a conversation I had I think he's looking for work on projects that allow him more creative license. Re: Sketch cover gallery
I think for most, but I think there are some artists happy to just draw big 2 characters their whole careers. What really baffles me is creators like Quesada who've had some success with their own characters and don't do anything with them.lorddunlow wrote:I would think the ultimate goal would always be to do your own stuff.grendeljd wrote:Ah. Hello, I am pretty new around here... This is one of my favorite threads to read, all of these sketches are amazing!
I have just begun to ask for quick sketches at shows too, so far I have met Cary Nord and Matt Kindt. It was very nice meeting both of them.
Here's what I got from Cary:
And from Matt, notice on the con exclusive the mouth he drew. He remarked a few other books like that also :

Re: Sketch cover gallery
I actually logged in just now to express my excitement about lining up a sketch cover commission from Agnes Garbowska (she did the cute baby Unity #1 cover).
I really like that style and I've had an idea for a cute Bleeding Monk commission for a long time. I'm super stoked that she had a spot left and could do one for me. She does them in full watercolor - her commissions always look awesome (she posts them on Twitter all the time).

Re: Sketch cover gallery
I am new to sketch covers too, and learned the hard way that The Valiant blank cover has the WORST paper to draw on.
I got these three at Heroes Con, two weeks back.
X-O by Cary Nord (he really struggled to sketch on the paper)
Divinity by Matt Kindt
Rai by Matt Kindt

Bumping to top.
Jacob Chabot was a super nice guy. He doodled on my son's comic for free and also did a quick sketch in the TPB of his creator owned work.
