Sweet, that is a good review. :thumb:
I hope everybody feels that it is as important as this reviewer does.

Do we know if there is a preview for Bloodshot in the back of Harbinger #1?

Looks like there is a four page preview of Bloodshot in the back, the same four pages we've seen before.

If, as the review suggests, a prominent theme is the old "haves versus have-nots" debate, it will be critically acclaimed since many people find the notion that we're all born into some kind of economic caste system comforting.

The flip side of that debate, in my opinion, is "makers vs takers"; the notion that we're all ultimately responsible for our lot in life and we can choose to use our talents to uplift our condition or simply vote to give ourselves somebody else's stuff.

In a day and age when the economically downtrodden have $400 iPhones, air conditioning, etc etc I tend to think it's a case of "the haves and have-mores".

But the book is sure to be an exciting foray into modern themes and I'm intersted to see Dysart's treatment of such. :thumb:

EDIT: Just listened to Dysart on the Podcast and he's obviously a pretty intelligent fellow. My favorite quote: "Character drives narrative, not plot". I'm psyched to read an approach from a perspective that doesn't necessarily mimic my own. Just don't get preachy, that's all I ask.

I am walking into a comic book store for the first time since my teens to pick this book up. My friend (who I used to collect Valiant with) told me about the new books after X-O came out. He let me read his copy and I am hooked all over again. I probably wont buy X-O monthly, but Harbinger was one of my favorite back then so it will be a monthly read for me now.

I guess I will call my local store to see if they will have a copy for me to pick up :)

I personally think that there is another side in between and that is that those considered by society as both the majority of those perceived as the "upper middleclass" and down through the "lower class" "haves" and the "have nots" certainly have a better lot in life materially nowadays; however I also see them both being driven into a mode of volutary servitude through the current almighty capitalistic system. Aka: through Debt.

"Luxery" items are ridiculously affordable today, however "basic needs" are astronomical price wise. Personally I blame all levels of Government over-regulation and the layers of diconnect between the people and their governing officials for all of America's problems today.

It's a great review and a nice pull quote for Valiant but I don't think they are high fiving yet. Comicbookbin is not CBR or Newsarama, their review does not have the weight those two would give their reviews.

John, I agree with you. My views also skew away from the "entitlement" generation mentality. I opened my first business at 18, my first retail store at 23. Everything I have done happened because I NEEDED it to happen. And I think Joshua knows not to be preachy. What's great is that the book does play with those situations, it fits into the current "1% vs 99%" conversation, which CAN help the book find a spot and get some nice publicity.

Interesting because it's the first time I've really heard about the mental illness angle beyond Pete's self-medication.

I think there are quite a few things in this book we haven't heard about yet. Those 6 or 7 preview pages that have been posted everywhere are the least dense pages in the book :)

I am presently starting my own company. I've spent the last 10 years and most of my life's fortune trying to get something rolling, the last two were done in by the vicissitudes of the market and my own inexperience. This one will work, I think I finally have it figured out. :hope:

That's why it's like nails on a blackboard when I hear people talk about how they're entitled to the earnings of others. It must look easy when you don't have devise a viable marketing plan, worry about every dollar you spend or make payroll.

It seems to me that Dysart is taking an even handed approach. I hope the books bear that out.

And thanks for calling me John, Ed. :D
