When that fookwit Rob Liefeld started talking trash about Valiant last week, he should've been reminded about the utter crap that was Deathmate red, and how it was half a year late, and then when it did come out, Rubik was the only one to buy a copy.

I guess Gen13 worked out, but then they got pretty stale after a while too.
I remember when Solar met the Image girl in a tight silver-ish outfit. No idea which one. Thats all I remember.

How utterly elegant. That's a valid answer to both paragraphs.

Deathmate was an abortion. why won't it just die?

Deathmate Black - 1st appearance of Gen 13 and Fairchild. And Fairchild is getting some play in the new DC 52 so maybe that book is now worth a quarter instead of a mere ten cents!

There was a LCS here when Gen-13 was the hottest book on the market they could not give away copies of Deathmate Black for free.

Thank you. I recently got all the Deathmate Gold books and couldn't remember that character's name (although I'll cop to only having read two of the books when they first came out...)

Completely unrelated but I actually looked at my kid's ¢0.25 Youngblood #1 he got a few weeks ago. What in the heck were we thinking back then?

That pretty much anything penciled by someone famous would sell, just so long as it had boobs and big guns.

Speaking of which, it dawned on me recently that I don't much like Jim Lee's work, or at least the faces he draws: too many clenched-teeth snarls and scratchy lines converging on a point just below the nose. :?

I have a lot of baggage and opinions on Image and their founders, but Jim Lee is a far better artist and a far more complete professional than Lefield ever was/will be.

Lee was always a better writer too. He was no Allan Moore or Frank Miller by a long ways, but compared to Rob he was Grant Morrison.

Oh, without a doubt. And I'm sure my observation is a gross over-statement. But I've seen a bunch of Lee covers recently and they all had the Image snarl and scratchy lines. :|

Just to bring the topic back around, is there any universe you would like to see Valiant crossover with? Personally, I'm not a fan of company crossovers because they seem too unreal. On paper, it sounds great to be able to mash up characters I love with characters from other companies, but in practice it's hard to get sucked in because you know they don't belong. If I'm reading X-O and the Death Star comes creeping up in the background, as cool as that might be, I'm totally out of the story. Same with when Spidey was fighting Superman (and they're both heroes! Why are they fighting?!).

When Deathmate was first announced, I thought it was a great idea. I was a big fan of both companies and the idea of them telling a big story together was awesome... we see what happened there. One guy liked it.

How about Walking Dead and Valiant?

Ivar accidently teleports a select group of Valiant heroes to the complete crapfest that is the Walking Dead universe.

Naw, never happen.

I don't know much about the Walking Dead, but from the commercials I've seen for the show it seems that superheroes might not be too welcome surrounded by a group of paranoid rednecks... :hm:
