Re: First impressions
The red guy seems to be a painting on the wall... but in such detail that there has to be some significance.BugsySig wrote:I agree. I just meant we may be assigning some sort of meaning to things based on VH1 that aren't necessarily there.jmatt wrote:No, that character was pointedly different than the rest of humanity Pete was wading through. We will see him again, methinks.BugsySig wrote:That red guy interested me too...though I think we will all be seeing things for a while as we are expecting Easter eggs at every turn...

I agree. But foreplay can be fun.jmatt wrote:I like it overall, good art and dialogue. But it's hard to go wild since the book is mostly plotline setup for the rest of the story arc.

I just wanted to say hello all! This is my first ever post, even though I have been reading this site for like 7 years! Anyway at the end of The Harbinger preview you can see he is just painted on the wall.. I think this just goes to show the effort of the artist to due detailed back grounds. Which is ironic since that is one of the complaints about X-O 1. I have to say that I am thrilled with it. And people love the QR variant which I have been showing off at work , home and of course 3 of my LCS.

I'm pretty sure the red guy was painted on the wall, kinda like Che Guevara graffiti.
At least, that's the way I read it.

That is the way I read it as well, although it definitely stood out. Will be interesting to see if it has larger ramifications.Dr. Solar wrote:I'm pretty sure the red guy was painted on the wall, kinda like Che Guevara graffiti.

Re: First impressions
Yeah, I wasn't sure what to make of that. You can see where the cracks in the wall break his image, but that's an awful detailed image to paint in a single color on a wall that otherwise has only unsophisticated graffiti tags. If that's what it is, it seems very odd and out of place.greg wrote:The red guy seems to be a painting on the wall... but in such detail that there has to be some significance.
I thought it was like some kind of 'ghost' or 'fiend' that was semi-transparent, thus enabling us to see the cracks. But you'll notice the bandolier is "painted" across the crack, so it's not very clear what the image is getting at...

Re: First impressions **SPOILERS POSSIBLE**
I would agree, there's more background detail in the Harbinger book. And I'm not sure I would typify my note about the X-O background as a complaint, per se; more an observation and a wish. I can appreciate different styles.Ramses818 wrote:I think this just goes to show the effort of the artist to due detailed back grounds. And I'll be happy to point out that the book makes a point of noting the open fields upon which the action takes place for the most part. Not much background to draw for a huge open plain...

Cary Nord has never been detailed in his backgrounds. Not even in his critically-acclaimed work in Conan. It's not his style. he works best when the art looks a bit sketchy.
