Question about new variant covers for relaunch issues?
Hey guys, was wondering are there going to be variants for every issue or are they just doing all the cool incentives for the #1's?

I think they are planning on doing more variants besides the first issues, but I'm not sure how many issues they will keep it up for (hopefully not many).

Re: Question about new variant covers for relaunch issues?
At the podcast they made it clear that variant covers wouldn't be there focus and not all issues will have them.

Variants can be fun but I'm getting tapped out quickly. I hope it's very occasional.

Agreed, I do love my Valiant but would not want a variant for every issue that comes out.

Varient covers are a complete and total waste of time, money, talent, and trees.

Yes. I doubt I will get many of them, but they seem like a must. I have no problem with them.

Re: Question about new variant covers for relaunch issues?
Variants are there as an incentive to retailers to order more copies. Publishers in general could care less what a collector wants to see. It is purely business and sales motivated for the publisher and LCS (who profit from the variant mark-up).
That being said, I only expect multiple variants through the end of the "Summer of Valiant" for those same promotional reasons. So after XO #4, Harbinger #3, Bloodshot #2 and A&A #1, I think it will revert to a normal 1 variant per issue (1:20 or 1:50) for a while before it becomes only an occasional thing (like anniversary/milestone issues or crossovers).
Of course if they continue the pull-box promotion, who knows what we could end up with...

Re: Question about new variant covers for relaunch issues?
I think the pullbox is just for the first issues (which I'm very happy about). Judging from X-O #2, all future issues (for now) are going to have 1:20 variants. You might be right that this is just something they doing for Summer of Valiant, though. Maybe just the first 4 of each issue to help get them started?BugsySig wrote:Variants are there as an incentive to retailers to order more copies. I hope the 1:20 editions stop at some point since they cost $20 each. I rather get the pullbox which is the same cost as the regular edition.

Re: Question about new variant covers for relaunch issues?
It looks like plenty of people are finding them for much less than $20, at least.fury143 wrote:I hope the 1:20 editions stop at some point since they cost $20 each. I rather get the pullbox which is the same cost as the regular edition.

Can someone explain the pullbox variant for me? I have an understanding of the others but I'm not sure what that is.

It's for people who reserve issues. But in reality it's only really a 50/50 cover.TKWill wrote:Can someone explain the pullbox variant for me? I have an understanding of the others but I'm not sure what that is.

And plenty of people, including myself, have seen them just out on the shelves with the regular cover.ian_house wrote:It's for people who reserve issues. Re: Question about new variant covers for relaunch issues?
I don't think it quite worked out like they originally thought. I knew that would be an issue as soon as they announced it. The logistics of limiting the cover to sub customers only would either be 1) a logistical nightmare or 2) completely dependent on the LCSs to be the gatekeepers on it (which, let's face it will never happen).
As ian said, it's pretty much a 50/50 split.
Also, X-O #3 has a 1:20 variant as does Harby #2. So it's not ending yet. I know the secondary market is not what they care about, but having this many variants out there isn't good for the secondary market.
