I thought Turok and Geomancer had good moments and potential...but Psi-lords was always bland to me.
D-mate would've been the obvious choice but that's too easy....

The question though is what series was the biggest flop, not the worst. Biggest flop denotes that the series had big expectations, which Turok did. No other Valiant comic had as big expectations and flopped the worst than Turok. Yes, there were worst series and some completely garbage comics. But Turok was supposed to be a great series in the Solar, Magnus and Harbinger mold. It wasn't. Add to that the high total of print run and it was easily the biggest "flop".

Turok was no where near as well written as Solar or Magnus, probably because Jim was gone by then, no? But if it was a "flop" wouldn't it have cancelled by the 8th issue? /me shrugs

Re: What Valiant comic was the biggest flop?
Turok #1 had 1.75 million copies printed. In contrast, Deathmate was only about 600,000+ and Bloodshot #1, which was published 4 months earlier, had a print run of 800,000. Dr Mirage, published a few months later than Turok #1, printed 450,000 copies.MarrowMan wrote:Turok was no where near as well written as Solar or Magnus, probably because Jim was gone by then, no? Another good candidate for flop was probably Secret Weapons #1, print 2 months after Turok #1 with 650,000 copies.

Not to get off topic, but could you imagine a comic with a print run of that these days?Ross2 wrote:Turok #1 had 1.75 million copies printed.MarrowMan wrote:Turok was no where near as well written as Solar or Magnus, probably because Jim was gone by then, no? Re: What Valiant comic was the biggest flop?
Here are a few candidates for "biggest flop"...
http://www.valiantfan.com/valiant/top15unwanted.asp" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
On the other hand, "biggest flop" could be a book that was supposed be successful with a huge print run, but the orders didn't come in.
Something like Geomancer #1, perhaps? Or the Secret Weapons #11 in the envelope?
PunX is a good choice, too, but I don't know if they thought it would sell.

It was intended as a One Shot and still much better than Outcast or Punx.MarrowMan wrote:What about "Destroyer" The Solar Alter Ego? I don't recall if that lasted that long either

I'll take the bullet.
Harbinger even before #25 was..Meh.
I liked turok (Yeah I'm biased! )
Hate to admit it, but secret weapons I'd say was a flop.

Re: What Valiant comic was the biggest flop?
Defining a books flop-iness may depend on who's perspective you are taking - readers or Valiant. Printing 1.75 million copies of Turok #1 seems to say that Valiant was expecting big things, but it certainly did not maintain that level so maybe a flop to them. My expectations were higher for Secret Weapons in that I thought Valiant was finally getting their Avengers title going and it would be great. But I was let down and dropped it after 3 or 4 issues. So that was a flop to me. I know it's the easy one to pick, but Deathmate still probably wins this. Valiant and Image expected a lot, the fans expected a lot, and it failed both groups miserably.
This post has been carefully constructed so as to add absolutely nothing to any discussion or topic.

Re: What Valiant comic was the biggest flop?
You might be on to something. I still rank Turok #1 up there, because up until that point I thought Valiant could do no wrong. That's where I consider the slide to have started. Deathmate, I have to admit, was the biggest disappointment to me as far as hype went. At the time, I LOVED Valiant and I LOVED Image, so the two of them working together had to be awesome! Not to mention the fact this was Valiant's next big crossover and Unity was so awesome that this had to be as good or better. So, yeah, as a fan I was pretty let down.dbngaa wrote:Defining a books flop-iness may depend on who's perspective you are taking - readers or Valiant. After issue #25, I would agree with that assessment, but the series was pretty awesome for the first dozen or so issues and still pretty good until the Harada/Sting confrontation. The book really went South after that...OmenSpirits.com wrote:

Although we are sliding off-topic, I do agree that after Sting and Harada fought, it kinda burned out the book.
I wonder if Shooter had left some story bible info that led up to that and no more, so Valiant didn't know what to do with Harbinger after the Pete/Toyo battle.
