Completing my Valiants!

Post by JonesyAZ »

Hey all,

As many of you know, I have been working to complete a VH1 set of books (minus premiums ala "gold books") just to have them all to read and enjoy! So many of you have helped me out greatly and I appreciate EVERYTHING you've either sold to me, or sent to me out of the kindness of your hearts...thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!!!!

The reason for this thread is, how much money do you guys realistically think I should expect to pay to obtain the rest of the books? I have looked at guide prices, and it's obvious that the end-of-run books will cost me (like Turok...yikes!). But here is what I have left to get; i'd just love to hear("read") your opinions/thoughts.

You guys really rock! Discuss!!

Armorines 9-12
Bloodshot 20, 36, 45, 47-51
Eternal Warrior 34, 48, 50
Eternal Warrior Fist and Steel 1, 2
Harbinger 37, 38
Hard Corps 27, 29
Ninjak 18, 19, 20, 24
Punx Manga Special
Second Life of Dr. Mirage 16, 17, 18
Solar: Man of the Atom 40, 58, 59, 60
Timewalker 0
Turok 0, 18-22, 24-28, 30-47
Visitor 12

I wonder how soon the Accalims I have been sending you are going to complete the disease.

And I DID throw the SM #1 in to the box. :D

Archer and Armstrong 23 - .50
Archer and Armstrong/Eternal Warrior 26 .50
Armorines 9-12 2.00
Bloodshot 20, 30-33, 36-38, 41-51 $23.00
Bloodshot: Last Stand 5.00
Destroyer #0 .50
Eternal Warrior 34, 48, 50 3.00
Eternal Warrior Fist and Steel 1-2 3.00
Eternal Warrior Yearbook 2 1.00
Eternal Warrior Wings Special 1.00
Harbinger 37, 38 1.00
Hard Corps 27, 29 1.00
Magnus Robot Fighter 54, 55, 57-60 3.00
Ninjak 4(with card), 6, 7, 9, 13-20, 24 6.00
Psi-Lords 7, 9 2.00
Punx Manga Special .50
Second Life of Dr. Mirage 16-18 1.00
Shadowman 27, 31, 34, Yearbook 2.00
Solar: Man of the Atom 40-47, 49, 53-54, 58-60 10.00
Timewalker 0, Yearbook 1.00
Turok 0, 13-22, 24-28, 30-47 28.00
Turok: The Hunted 1-2 1.00
Valiant Vision Starter Kit (w/ glasses) .50
Visitor 12 .50
X-O Manowar 50-O, 53, 57-66, 68 24.00
The total above is about $92 without shipping, so say $100 on the conservative side (although my math has been off before, sorry Phantom  ).

This is just my guess so take it as you will however I typically expect to pay at least 50 cents to $1 to fill holes in my collection (even though the book is worth less than a dime) based on convenience of finding it.

My best advice to you though would be to go to comic book shows for most of the items on here since you can probably strike a deal to make them quarter books or so. Then on the premium type last issues . . .

Bloodshot 51, Last Stand
Solar 60
Turok 47
XO 68

. . . cut a deal with a board member here who posts them up for sale at the same time. Often enough (similar to what VEI Reborn did this week) you'll find a collector offering most of them up for sale at one point or another throughout the year.

I'm glad you didn't start talking about the VVSS or BS PLatinum or else I would have had to break out the calculater.

WOO HOO!!!! You rule, Elveen!

It's funny you mention the Acclaims, 'cuz just a week ago, I found a battered, used copy of "Harbinger: Acts of God" for 50 cents at a local shop. I am probably going to give in and get VH2 after all...lol.

For the common books I think making a bulk deal with someone like daydreamscomics (Zach) or another reliable board member would be your best bet.

VEI-R does have the books you need for sale minus the BS 51 and his prices are pretty good.

If you were thinking of pulling the trigger, I can rep to say that he's a good guy to deal with :thumb:

Good luck in the hunt, I just need a couple last newsstand issues to be done with my complete set. The dicease is almost cured.

My next mission is recollecting the silver age keys . . . unfortunatley the price tag will be much higher :o

That's a good piece of advice to if you can find someone with those issues as you would get the best deal. :thumb: I've seemed to notice lots of us trimming the collection down to premiums.

Basically, the commons should be cheap, and the end books, not as much.

You are almost there J.

You will most likely need to spend a bit more on the end Bloodshot and Solar issues from what what the estimated quotes were provided.

One other thing to consider is how much you like to shop comic shows. I found personally that I like having common issues on my "to buy" list when I go to shows so I'm still coming out of each one with a few issues I need at a relatively low cost.

Good time to buy those kind of issues though. Seems like prices keep dropping all of the time.

Just for the sake of opinion. I think you are waaaay low on some of these.

Bloodshot 20, 30-33, 36-38, 41-51 $23.00
Eternal Warrior 34, 48, 50 3.00
Solar: Man of the Atom 40-47, 49, 53-54, 58-60 10.00
Turok 0, 13-22, 24-28, 30-47 28.00

I think the Bloodshot 50, 51, EW 50, Solar 60, and Turok 46-47 still will sell for top $$$ (guide).

For example, Bloodshot 50 and 51 will sell for $23 by itself. EW 50 will go for more than $3.

These books do not sell like they use to, but I think these prices are too low. Not trying to cause an argument, just discussing.

I think a lot of it how and wheer you are willing to look. We put a lot of emphasis on the rarity of end books due to print runs, but honestly, most dealers I know could care less about any of the imprint and treat it the same, with the exception of the pre-Unity books and the premiums (Golds and such).

For instance, I pulled a Magnus 64 and a the complete Punx series, including Manga, out of a 25 cent bin.

Now if I could only do that for a Magnus 0 or 12. :|

that is what I was saying. Cheap back issue bins are the best bet. Most, not all, dealers will value a Magnus #2 or Solar #4 more than Solar 60. I have pulled many treasures out of cheap back issue bins.

That is the fun in the hunt.

Great minds think alike! :thumb:

There's actually one place here in town that I hope to raid again and see if they'll deal. Unfortunately, in the past they always pull out an Overstreet and price accordingly (they are a record shop that bought out the stock of a defunct comic shop and have no clue or interest).

Any idea what Overstreet actually prices Pre-Unity and end runs of these books now?

For example, Bloodshot 50 and 51 will sell for $23 by itself. EW 50 will go for more than $3.

These books do not sell like they use to, but I think these prices are too low. Not trying to cause an argument, just discussing.
No offense taken C :thumb: I enjoy reading other people's opinions or last be honest, I probably wouldn't ever come back here :D

Fair point cause yoyou got me on the total as probably being a little low, but for reference I put in prices from VEI-R's sale thread (not hawking his stuff, it was just the most recent thread I saw) and then the guide value.

Bloodshot 50 $7 Guide = $10
Solar 60 $8 Guide = $12
Turok 46 $2 Guide = $8
Turok 47 $8 Guide = $16
Eternal Warrior 50 $7 Guide = $10

. . it all might work out in the end assuming you don't pay 50cents for the commons :hm:

Jonesy, maybe you can do an expirement and see how much money it takes to collect the rest of these

When I first started coming here, I'll admit I saw books selling on these boards for below Greg's guide, sometimes for the wholesale price. I'm sure the economy hasn't helped, and the fact that the hardcore already have what they need and for hoarding purposes, I think people liked a deal.

Yeah, long time members probably have 99 percent of what they need, so newer people trying to fill the gaps on their collection are the main buyers.
