Display ideas....

Post by BodaZoffa »

I am getting ready to close on my dream house in april. I plan on putting my office in one of the upstairs rooms & I would like to display my CGC comics there. I'd like to display them in a display case or have them mounted on the walls, but the only problem is I'm worried about sunlight/light damage. I've seen some protective display cases that are suppose to block out harmful UV rays & light so that the covers don't fade. Has anyone heard of these or tried them.

I'm up for any suggestions here....

Thanks, Boda

I would think a display case with UV protection glass(there is a film you can buy to put on normal glass)...who knows what UV rays through the CGC plastic case would do to the colors...i'm guessing it wouldn't be good...
Why waste time learning, when ignorance is instantaneous?

Bill Cole advertises a "graded comics frame"...
This is from the back of the February - Overstreet's Comic Price Review.

That looks like overkill, and he wants to display CGCd comics.

There has got to be a clear anti-glare UV blocking material you can buy to put over the CGC case. I would inquire at a picture framing shop.

I think if you use a room that is shielded from sunlight, and has incandescent lighting, you may not need anything at all.

Thanks Greg...

I think that is exactly what I am looking for. It's a little expensive, but if it works it will be worth it.

I know what you mean it seems like the display stuff costs as much as the thing being displayed....I collect autographed UGA helmets...I buy the helmet for 100 bucks and get it signed every year at signing day( a day during the spring when every UGA player and coach...oh yeah and Uga...all sign autographs...) well ya know the little cubes to put signed helmets in? well I was looking around on the interent yesterday and some places want more than 100 dollars for one!?! That is how much I have in the damn helmet...

I just realized something...Bill Cole's been doing comics archiving for nearly 30 years! Wow! Ok, raise your hand if you've still got a few 'Bill Cole 100 for $3.00' bags from the late 70's/early 80's? ;)

Well, Boda...I can only give to you MY personal opinion of course. That opinion is that ANY light, WHAT SO EVER...is never good for Comic books.

For example, however without delving into the specifics of my collection, I WILL say this to all reading...MY books have been in PITCH darkness, at 55 degrees for 25 years. I have had MANY an "industry" individual tell me... "Bryan, your books are as tight as i've seen. Colors stunningly bright, and white page quality, excellent books". 8) ...Guess why?...NO DOUBT...the darkness, and temp of their storage.

I think that what you'd like to do, i've personally thought of doing MANY times  ...in the end, I never trusted man's attempts to tame the Sun when it came to ink and paper  ...over time, the combination isn't friendly. I'd give it deeper thought...just my II :?:
