Does it mean that VEI owns the copyright to those comics?

No one told me to post anything, heh.

I posted it to incite debate, so people can discuss the content of the comics and how it may relate to VEI.

It sounds like VEI owns the copyrights to those titles that Valiant previously printed. So they could reprint those stories and nobody else would be able to. Which I think has already been pretty much established.

:hm:

Could they tell new stories that used content from those comics?

If they do own those, then they should have no problem doing a Magnus HC with Steel Nation and one with Invasion before they do Rai. :thumb:

The Vintage Magnus copyright is interesting. Does it mean that they own the Gold Key material, or just the copyright for altered reproductions?

Now that I think about it, this is worrisome.

Let's clear this right now.

Nothing I post comes from VEI, I don't speak for VEI, nothing I say is VEI approved (unless otherwise noted)

They own what Valiant previously published. They could have led off with a Magnus or Solar HC book, but they would need permission to produce "new material".

If they aren't able to get the rights to publish new material, I would have to agree it makes more sense to focus on putting advertising (in the form of HC reprints with an "ALL NEW STORY") towards properties that they do own and need to re-establish in the market.

I would imagine once they can get themselves a firm footing, reprinting those old stories might be a good way to generate more profit (depending, of course, on how these HC's are actually working towards that end)

Heh, now to use Magnus and Solar they'll need to do crossovers with Dark Horse.

So, you weren't seriously looking for a legal opinion?

If you start a thread like this to incite debate, you deserve whatever goat-love gets thrown your way.
