I agree, they look fantastic. The lettering is really nice. You may have me convinced to use H&R for my books.
Ditto from me, bribri; those books look frickin' awesome :thumb: !!

Id NEVER bind a 9.0 or higher book... I will keep those in the hands of the collectors :)

Thanks for the compliments, everyone! I spent a lot of time on the die stamps and choosing the colors. I really tried to make the color scheme of each book match that of the title (i.e. Timewalker: green book with white letters; Visitor: blue book with red letters).

I've got 9 more books at Herring & Robinson now (3 Shadowman, 3 Turok, 2 Harbinger, 1 Secret Weapons). And I've got 7 more ready to ship. Like many members on this board, I've become somewhat addicted. But honestly, I look at my books way more often than I did when they were bagged, boarded, and sitting in long boxes. Love it.
MoonChild wrote:They look great bribri! did you add any bonus materials to them? Interior Pics?
MoonChild,
The only bonus material I added were promo ads and introductions from TPBs. For example, I added the introduction from one of Solar TPBs (can't remember if it was A&O or Second Death) at the front of the first volume of Solar. Where possible, I tried to include the first ads for a specific title at the front of the books. For A&A I included the "Square Pegs in a Round World" ad at the front, for Visitor I included the "1994 is the Year of the Visitor" ad, etc., etc.

I would have loved to include some original artwork, but I don't really have any, I'm already spending a bit of money on the books, and I couldn't wait to get them bound.

One more thing. I know many of you who bind your books have decided to combine Geomancer and Psi-Lords because each series is rather short.

I think I'm going to do the same but with a small twist. I'm considering making mine a flip book. If I do, the book will have "Psi-Lords" stamped on the front and "Geomancer" stamped on the back (flipped, of course). The spine will be similar to the others, but it would say "Psi-Lords & Geomancer," or something like that. And of course, I'll have to submit the pages to the bindery with the correct alignment/direction.

My only hesitation about binding books now is that I'm not sure what Valiant Entertainment is going to produce. If they ever release another Geomancer or Psi-Lords series, I could perhaps eventually bind the old books with the new.

I'm looking forward to getting some bindings done... need to finish my Shadowman run first and then try to decide what series I would like to collect next :)

I think that the flip book is a really neat idea!!! Even if VALIANT released more books Im sure they would be a bit different. Im not counting on the books being similar to the point where I can link continuity.. I might be wrong though...

Bribri

Keep it up! My set ended up being a total of 48 books and I'm constantly pulling one or more of the books off my shelves to re-read stories or runs.

And doesn't Herring & Robinson do a great job!?! I've had them do 12 other books for me and their quality to price comparison is second to none!

Out of curiosity, what options did you chose to have the spines look that way, and what issues are in each volume of your Shadow Man collections?

Thanks!

It's from the inside cover of The Last Stand, the left side being on the inside of the front cover and the right side being from the inside of the back cover. Normally, the comic pages are between the two sides of the image, but for my bound book I decided to put the images together with the pages immediately following.

Depends on your design. There is a charge for each element you add (i.e. die stamps, front-cover lettering, panel lines, etc.).

My books have cost approximate $25-$30 each, plus shipping.

I've been using Herring and Robinson out of the San Francisco area and their basic price is $18.50 a book (plus shipping).

My last order with them (pictures below) for six books cost $145.00 total.

Image

- All six books had head bands installed (those provide no value whatsoever other than aesthetics. I like them and think they make the books look "finished" so I always add them.)
- The First Kingdom and the Animaniacs were basic bindings at $18.50 each. Note that First Kingdom is magazine sized and there was no additional charge for the larger size. Just two panel lines and the head bands
- The four Batman books were $23.50 each but that included the four panel lines along the spine as well as the two different die stamps on the spine (the DC logo and the customized Batman logo) and the head bands.

Shipping and handling was $14.00. The books came packed in a large box shipped media mail and filled with packing peanuts and paper to protect the books from the USPS.

I have another six books at their bindery now and have about 50 more books so far.

Yes, I too am using Herring and Robinson! They're great.

My books are all between $25 and $30 because of the two die stamps, black end pages, panel lines, front-cover lettering and headbands. And I'm basically making them all identical (with the exception of colors). So, they're all about the same price. One could bind a book for even less, as you've noted.

Good lord.
Those are amazing.
I was just recently rereading my Unity and HARD Corps binds and they reinforced how badly I need to get the rest of my Valiant books bound up.

That is some very nice work.

Did you have the dies created custom?
