WELCOME TO THE BOARDS - Here are some helpful hints

Post by greg »

First of all... Welcome!

If you're a fan of VALIANT, you're in the right place.

Here are a few basics that will make you feel like you've been here forever:

TOP TWENTY HELPFUL HINTS TO MAKE VALIANTFANS.COM FEEL LIKE HOME

1) The guys here are mostly harmless.
(However, gals here have been known to bite.)

2) This messageboard, like all messageboards can be uncivil at times.
If you're looking for the G-rated Rainbow Brite board, better head back to Google and try again.
If you pick a fight, or retaliate, be prepared to serve detention.
Yep, it's junior high school all over again. :P

3) If someone is giving you a hard time, be encouraged that 1,000+ other guys think you're doing just fine. :thumb:

4) If you're just here to sell your stuff, be prepared to be
treated like a vacuum cleaner salesman crashing a family reunion.
Someone may actually be interested, but you would do better to join the family a while
BEFORE you start asking Uncle Buford and Aunt Betty for a loan.

5) For no apparent reason, every poll must include a reference to ice cream.
(Quite often, it is the best choice for an answer.) :|

6) Somewhat random references may seem like inside jokes,
and you may not think you know the punchline... don't worry about it...
Odds are there is no punchline anyway.

7) A few guys here have thousands and thousands of posts.
Don't necessarily equate post counts with knowledge.
Profound things have been uttered by newbies.

8) If you're new here, then you're a newbie, a noobie, a noob, and a n00b.
You automatically have cooties, and by the way, tag, you're it. 8-)

9) Some days, no one talks about VALIANT at all. :hm:

10) Jim Shooter. If you don't know who he is, you don't know VALIANT. :?

11) All these messageboards, and there's a website, too.
VALIANTFANS.COM has answers to your questions.
So does the Search function at the top of this page.
Give 'em a try!

12) Turok #1 is worthless. Sorry. Chromium isn't rare. Nope.
Deathmate is a synonym for a bowel movement. Eww, gross. Yet true.
(Blame Image!)

13) Actual, living, breathing, former VALIANT executives, artists, and writers are here.
Yes! I'm not kidding. They even answer your questions. It's true. For real. Wowsers.
The title under their name is "Valiant? I was there!" Get to know these guys, they rock.
Be kind, rewind. :o

14) Once upon a time, a comic was sent from one boardmember to another.
Somehow, a small curly hair found its way under the tape on the back of the comic.
It's gross, it's disgusting, it's history... and it's referenced all the time.
See? Now you really don't want to know what all the other jokes are about, do you? :!:

15) Acclaim made some books after VALIANT ended.
They aren't VALIANT, yes they are, no they're not, they're just as good but different,
no they suck, no some of them are great, no I don't like them at all, but they're really ok,
but I don't collect them, because I gotta get them all.
Ok, now I think you're caught up on that particular debate. :D

16) Not everyone enjoys every VALIANT comic. It's ok.
I don't like every flavor of ice cream. It doesn't mean ice cream isn't good.
You don't have to love everything VALIANT did to be a VALIANT fan.
But you do have to love Pre-Unity books.
Seriously, we're not kidding. :atomic:

17) If you found a great VALIANT book for really, really cheap, then that's fantastic.
And, we hate you. :kidaround:

18) If it's controversial, then it will never be solved.
That doesn't mean people will stop talking about it, though. :tomato:

19)VALIANT WILL RETURN.
When it does, both the party and the riot will be right here.
It'll be a celebration of complete chaos and destruction.
It'll be a glorious time of weeping. The earth will shift on its axis.
Dogs and cats will get along, and then be eaten by the goldfish.
Prepare your parade banners and/or torches, protect your small children,
and keep your hands and feet inside the vehicle at all times.
It's going to be a bumpy ride.
:sumo:

19a) VALIANT HAS RETURNED!
Put on your party hats and riot gear, the door is being opened.
Let's see what's inside... shall we? :cloud9:

20) Just stick around, you'll see what I mean.

One more bit of advice, from a great guy named Trent Collins.
Trent battled illness, and is gone much too soon...
but he will be one of us forever.

Here's what Trent felt strongly enough to post in April 2005,
after he had only been a member of this messageboard a short time.
I'm sure it can be helpful to anyone else who's new to this board.

"100 posts, ok so it isn't that big of deal but what the heck. I am a noob but wanted to express my enjoyment of participating. The first couple weeks, I was reserved about posting anything except extremely related information but since have posted my feelings, opinions, and to be honest sometimes just something to get a laugh. To anyone else who is a noob and is reserved about posting....try it. I found out pretty fast that the more you participate, the more enjoyment you get. So I would say to any new member or anyone just reading through the board that is a VALIANT comics fan two words......GET INVOLVED. There is nothing to lose and alot to gain." -Trent Collins (tcolli)
