Generally, all Valiant books sell around 5,000 to 9,000 copies, with the exception being a big #1 launch and possibly the #2 issue if the #1 book was 20,000+ copies.nwoslave wrote:How do these numbers compare monthly over time?

About the same. By my reckoning, there are around 6500 consistent Valiant readers since a lot of arcs start settling in at that number about issue three or four.nwoslave wrote:How do these numbers compare monthly over time?
X-O is kinda the flagship and holds up better -- and I'm delighted to see the 12k figure for #6.

Yep, there are also a number of digital readers and trade paperback readers who like to wait.jmatt wrote:About the same. I'm also pretty happy about the 12,000 figure for X-O (2017) #6.

Secret Weapons 3 is not bad either, considering past numbers and the fact that this is far from a flagship title.

This looks VERY bad for Harbinger and Faith. Harbinger 7 is going to be even lower than 6, and that's not gonna be a very good lead-in to #0 or HW2.agent_graves wrote:177 X-O Manowar 6 Valiant 12,000

Re: VALIANT AUGUST SALES
I wonder if Faith readers are also more likely to be trade readers. Seems unlikely that females hurry to (sometimes skeevy) comic shops for single issues as often as they would buy "graphic novels" from those shops, online, digital, or conventions.TheFerg714 wrote:This looks VERY bad for Harbinger and Faith. Re: VALIANT AUGUST SALES
I agree, horrible numbers for Harbinger. This should be up with X-O. I think it's a reflection on how a majority of fans feel about the current run (some good single issues, but overall meh). I believe the series is done after the November 0 issue.TheFerg714 wrote:This looks VERY bad for Harbinger and Faith. I'm not a big Faith fan at all, but Future Force is actually a fun and enjoyable book. I like it much better than her solo series. Shame on the numbers.

Re: VALIANT AUGUST SALES
Another thing to remember is that the pre-order editions occur during sales for #1 (highest sales for a title occur for #1), but the books produced are the same amount of pre-order editions for #1 - #4 or #1 - #5, or whatever batch is being offered.
So, even if there are only 2,000 to 4,000 pre-order bundles for a title, add those to a title with 6,000 sales by #3 and it's going to show as 8,000 to 10,000 sales for #3. Without the pre-order number, 6,000 copies might be outside of the Top 300.
In other words, it's possible that Faith & The Future Force is only "lowest" because it didn't have a pre-order edition bundle... and Secret Weapons #3 is... right where we would expect because it did have pre-orders.

Re: VALIANT AUGUST SALES
Speaking of which -- is there any recent data on how Valiant's TPB's have been selling? I've seen where digital versions bounce around the Amazon top 100 in the Kindle Store from time to time, but those rankings don't really translate to sales figures, AND I'm assuming they would likely sell more paper copies than digital copies.greg wrote:I wonder if Faith readers are also more likely to be trade readers. TPB/HC numbers would be:

That's the Heisserer Effect. Writers with a following or a marquee name will grab more attention and deliver (hopefully) a better product. Valiant should do way more of this.nycjadie wrote:Secret Weapons 3 is not bad either, considering past numbers and the fact that this is far from a flagship title.

Going up or down staying level even with such few books per month. Thanks for answering my question.
I Miss the good old days.

Re: VALIANT AUGUST SALES
These numbers are actually pretty good. As someone who reads a lot of fiction/non-fiction and knows a few authors, selling anywhere near 1000 copies of a book will sell-out the first print run and be a commercial success for the publisher. Sure, we'd all like Valiant to be pulling massive numbers but I don't see this as doom and gloom.Zhuge1 wrote:Wow. Re: VALIANT AUGUST SALES
someone on reddit posited the idea since it is acting as a springboard or lead up to HW2 for the reason to its disjointed storytelling. which makes since considering how its playing out. its much less about the team and not much going on than previously.Nairbe wrote:I agree, horrible numbers for Harbinger. Re: VALIANT AUGUST SALES
That's good perspective. I think Faith volume 4 selling 800+ copies in August is a good mark -- presumably some folks will buy the trade in subsequent months resulting in additional sales overall.Bl00dsh0t wrote:These numbers are actually pretty good. I was just surprised about Shadowman Deluxe 2 because lots of people were clamoring for it for a LONG time. I assumed it had pretty significant pre-order numbers from Amazon, LCS's, etc.; but it looks like that wasn't the case. It could be that the length of time since those comics originaly were published could have led to some people losing interest as the delays mounted.

X-O Manowar Dlx Ed #1 sold 537 copies in 10/2013. There are no reports for #2-3.Zhuge1 wrote:That's good perspective. X-O Manowar Dlx Ed #4 sold 357 copies in 4/2017.
X-O Manowar Dlx Ed #5 sold 419 copies in 8/2017.
X-O Manowar is Valiant's flagship superhero. Compared to this, selling 358 copies of a Dlx Ed #2 featuring a character who hasn't really been around in more than 3 years except for showing up in Op Deadside and being featured in Rapture doesn't seem too bad. Also, the Shadowman Dlx Ed #2 is flying a little under the radar as it wasn't solicited again in the Previews Catalog (or was it?).
Interestingly, Valiant Masters Shadowman HC Vol. 1 Spirits Within sold
698 copies in 6/2013 and 1.348 copies in 10/2016 when it was part of some mystery box (IIRC)
