WTS Deluxe Editions / Trades / Omnibus (Cheap)

I happen to already own all the HCs and omnibi. But if not, I would jump all over this thread. nairbe is a great fan who’s attentions are now required elsewhere. Whether sealed or unsealed, I am certain all of these books are well cared for. Congratulations to those who jumped in early here, but all...

EXCLUSIVE: Ninjak Villain Roku Returns For First Solo Series

I think you only get so many chances to reboot before the new #1s lose their luster. So if I’m a new executive editor, I’m quite content to move on from BRS and make an early announcement for Tim Seeley on Bloodshot, and wait for the Paul Levitz submission for the Harbinger-related title while fulfi...

EXCLUSIVE: Ninjak Villain Roku Returns For First Solo Series

Love that Cullen Bunn gets another mini. But I’m not too keen on those interiors either. They look a bit too Marvel to me, and maybe that’s not great for a crime/espionage book. But in my opinion the cover looks fantastic!

Psi-Lords #1 Discussion

VIP only published one ashcan, limited to 100, basically just a bunch of hideous Jae Lee sketches. That’s a cool summary of the history, and as one of the living witnesses, so cool to read your first-hand perspective. I have to apologize for continuing to take this thread off-topic, but coincidenta...

Psi-Lords #1 Discussion

The last eighteen posts or so were not “about” Psi-Lords at all. Take a look. The thread had taken a turn towards how Archer & Armstrong 2012 sucked, ostensibly because of Armstrong’s regenerative capacity and superhuman strength, it appears. I loved that series and Ivar, and said so. The thread...

Psi-Lords #1 Discussion

Well thanks for the great recommendation, then! I just had to pipe up when I read flippant talk about “traitors” and the paranoid group dreams of letting writers “back in” and whatnot. Like comics writers are mercenaries or something. Go ahead, there are always several about who enjoy that kind of t...

Holy groupthink! Attempting to grasp the purported access to insider information, and follow the wandering logic of these last few posts. Since you’ll probably ask, I will say that I love A&a 2012. It was hilarious. And I loved the Ivar series too. And I think Neela is a great new character. Cre...

VALIANT ENTERTAINMENT September 2019 Solicitations

The only book I thought was undeserving of a Valiant logo was Bloodshot Rising Spirit (and even that was somewhat redeemed by Rahal in the final issues.) I argue that the books continue to be good, and I have certainly enjoyed Livewire and Forgotten Queen, as well as all the Faith minis, for instanc...

Some rapid-fire early opinions: Jonboy covers still amazing (one exception: his Killers 3) Other Bloodshot 1 covers lackluster Someone say Carbon-fiber Jonboy B&W? (Ears perk up) Iannincello Mirage 2 much too derivative (of better work by Kevic-Djurdjevic) Tan Mirage 2 cover is like the best Hay...

That’s a great point. And I suppose all of those things you mentioned could effect sales in some way? I think not, but perhaps the case could be made?

Re: VALIANT MAY 2019 COMIC BOOK SALES

What I truly do not understand is how any one of us can have any idea of profits, margins, overhead expenses, etc. with regards to comic publishing. Dino posted here that Valiant had been “wildly successful“ during his tenure, and I took that to be at least partially in the financial sense. However,...

VALIANT MAY 2019 COMIC BOOK SALES

I certainly do not share your views on Mambo & Mirage. I also have zero insight into the finances of Valiant Entertainment. Some people here have discerned that the sales per title metric of Valiant is #3, behind Marvel and DC, so even though print sales are diminishing across the board, that mu...

Okay, maybe you’re onto something here. Shadowman: Punk Mambo, or Shadowman: Doctor Mirage, or “from the pages of—“ Are these the business decisions that are not being taken? Or perhaps a different editorial team that might be appreciated beyond the minority you mentioned in your post? I think you h...

VALIANT MAY 2019 COMIC BOOK SALES

Would the names Tim Seeley and Brett Booth on Bloodshot be satisfactory for recognizable names on a flagship title? Is it the naming on the Harada series or the talent involved? I am not sure that having Harbinger in the title would significantly increase sales. The writers on the less marquee Valia...

The Visitor coming from Paul Levitz

Holy amazing! Looks like I’ve got some reading up on Legion of Super Heroes (writer) and late 70s-early 80s Batman titles (editor.) He also had a hand in bringing Brits like Moore & Gaiman over to DC back then. If true, this is incredible news.

VALIANT APRIL 2019 COMIC BOOK SALES

The big drop seems to be a pretty big sign that incentives do really help sales. I think that is a correct assessment. But I also believe that Valiant is correct to move towards the use of incentives sparingly. All ran-doh issues having a 1:50 eventually alienates collector fans because it is not a...

Fair enough. Thanks for the vigorous debate-ahem...discussion. To summarize my side of the discussion, I will restate that I feel that sales numbers are a *SQUEE* -poor indicator of quality. Countless examples. And I will restate that the Eisners are a pretty decent juried award, IMO, for the numero...

I personally don't care what a panel of sophisticated 'experts' think I should read. As previously stated, I think critics have their own criteria for what is 'good'. These sophisticated “experts” of whom you speak and label as professional critics. One of them was my comics retailer. He is not sop...

Hmm, reader buzz and sales. I hear about reader buzz every time I am in the comic shop and discuss what’s “hot” and what people are reading. That should be reflected on the Eisner shortlist, right? As the Wikipedia article points out, a comics retailer is always among the annual shortlist judges. On...
