I was thinking the same thing. The shelves are groaning under the weight of all that Valiant goodness!greg wrote:I do have one complaint, though... ... Those books DESERVE a better shelving unit.
An awesome collection; you guys are inspiring.

Re: Signature identification help, please?
I'm going out on a limb and saying the one beside Kathryn is "Rafael Kayanan" from Magic the Gathering 1995 (and he didn't have much room). :D Yeah, Massarsky was the first. I asked him to sign as he was showing me issues of upcoming titles. Then I went around the giant square table setup...

That's what I had thought, but I googled a few Layton signatures and thought they looked different, so I wasn't sure.iggy101us wrote:Bob Layton's sig is on top of Bernard Chang's.

Signature identification help, please?
In the spring of 1995, I attended the New York Comic Con. If I recall correctly, it was held at the NY Convention Center (not Javitz). I brought with me a copy of Rai #0 to collect signatures. Everyone else was whipping out creator specific titles and having them sign individual issues. Instead, I d...

Re: Market receptiveness for the relaunch
To be successful VEI needs to: 3) Be consistent in the art One big turnoff for me during the Acclaim years was how radically different everything looked. I felt alienated watching Bloodshot turn into Punisher and Shadowman take a walk down Vertigo street. And that's totally irrespective of the stor...

Re: Market receptiveness for the relaunch
[Truth is, speaking to people elsewhere, there is a feeling that this is something that could be good. It won't start huge, but it's not going to be ultra tiny, either. VEI doesn't need to become a # 2 or # 3. They just need to do well enough not to drop out of the top 12 publishers. That's very po...

Re: Market receptiveness for the relaunch
The truth is, the standard of success in today's market is far different to what it was in 1992. Well, in some weird way I was thinking that the relaunch might be better served by starting in a down economy. In the early 90's, the comic boom was starting. Internet riches had people in a speculatory...

Market receptiveness for the relaunch
I'm splitting this off from another thread since I think it's a topic in its own right. xodacia81 asked: So, I ask again, when has this version let you down? One concern I have with the relaunch is not VEI, but the market. Sure, we're all psyched about it, but are enough other readers who aren't Val...

If it helps, Mid-town comics had the best prices I could find for those books. Not a dime, of course, it's a retail outlet. Maybe a $1.75 each.
I've been to Mid-town comics in Manhattan, and the place is huge. If anyone ever gets a chance, you should go check it out!

That's it. It's about Marvel. There was an old page from Seaborn Adamson that mentioned this, that I once preserved and then it was lost. Now I see it has been salvaged again: http://www.reocities.com/timessquare/1961/xover.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; /Magnus Dude, ...

Re: New Valiant Solicitation- Looking For Fifteen Valiant Fa
I think Greg makes some excellent points. Seems like no-brainer to be a little apprehensive about investing 100 bucks plus shipping on a project from someone we hardly know. The questions raised are all perfectly reasonable. I noticed much of what Greg pointed out as well, and had a lingering doubt...

Re: New Valiant Solicitation- Looking For Fifteen Valiant Fa
Personally, I much prefer to read comic books than TPB, etc, so I can't say that I have any personal interest in this project. All my available comic money is gonna be soaked up by variant issues of the new, upcoming titles anyway. :D But I will go on the record with this, since I have actually perf...

Re: Shooter, Dark Horse and the Solar/Magnus relaunch
I don't think that anyone here is criticizing Shooter for his work on the old Valiant. I think it's the general consensus is that he was awesome then. The problem most people here have with him are his actions over the past couple of years. My problem is some of the comments he makes on his blog ma...

Re: Phil Seleski
Question: I know he was attached to Solar in the original Valiant, but really has no ties to Gold Key so technically doesn't VEI still have access to this character? I mean Phil Seleski was a Valiant creation - just Solar was his favorite comic character and he became his hero after the accident ri...

"You a dog! You a cat!" Great stuff! I just reread that issue (vs X-Caliber) and it's pure gold. X-Caliber's response: "What is he talking about? Sounds like he's trying to insult me!" Oddity: Why does Harada refer to him as X-Caliber when the character's name is Sniper and he c...

Re: Shooter, Dark Horse and the Solar/Magnus relaunch
[ I think what happened, based on my understanding, is that Shooter was blocking certain things, and the others majority voted him out so the sale could go through. The irony is that here we are lambasting Jim Shooter today, but I'll bet dollars to donuts that the things Shooter was fighting for ba...
