Re: Broadway reading order?

With such a small amount of comics you could read by release date. I think Powers that Be was first and started off with both Fatale and Star Seed then Fatale started her own series and Powers that be turned into Star Seed. IIRC there was little to no cross over between the stories, so you can just ...

Re: New Ninjak series by Jeff Parker and Javier Pulido

I think it feels that way because they did a really good job of setting expectations with the books. They had plenty of art that wasn't 'pencil rendering with painterly colors' but they set them up to do well like The Valiant and Paolo Rivera which didn't make anyone feel like it was taking away fr...

Re: New Ninjak series by Jeff Parker and Javier Pulido

A solid team but presented in the announcement with zero awareness of the contrast between this and literally every other major appearance of Ninjak. No thought put towards making sure the first reaction of Ninjak fans (who along with many die hard Valiant readers have openly talked about the prefe...

Re: New Ninjak series by Jeff Parker and Javier Pulido

Wow this actually looks interesting. Kudos to Valiant for trying something different. Might be tough to swallow for people used to photorealistic art styles, but Pulido is a master storyteller in the tradition of David Mazzucchelli and Frank Miller. Don't let the seeming simplicity fool you. I remem...

Re: Q's regarding Harbinger #0 (1992)

The Harada origin story from the coupons themselves was way better than Harbinger 0! Quoted for truth. Not to derail this thread further, but with Valiant's 30th anniversary coming next year, imagine how cool it would be if they would put out nice facsimile editions of some of the early classics. M...

Re: Q's regarding Harbinger #0 (1992)

It's unfortunate that Harbinger 0 was such a lackluster issue. It was obviously a post-Unity production (unlike Magnus 0 which was produced before Mag 1, probably a year or so before it was released), and it seems like some of Lapham's first work as a writer. He gets much better as we see in Stray ...

Re: XO Manowar [2020] #1 Discussion

The writing's been on the wall since this new crew took over, not only are none of them Valiant fans, they can't be bothered to do more than a cursory glance at the comics that have come before. On top of that they seem to have an active disdain for the action adventure genre that these comics have ...

Re: What I would've done if I owned VEI (final post)

Always sad to lose an old school Valiant fan who has invested countless hours and $$ into the universe, and the sad thing is for every fan who says goodbye with a final post there are dozens who just lose interest and wander off to other things, never to be heard from again. Are these new comics bri...

Re: VALIANT ENTERTAINMENT April 2020 Solicitations

If the cover direction was for generic action or standing poses, the more generic the better, the cover artists succeeded brilliantly. I hope somebody is keeping track of the number of X-O covers where's he's posing generically with the silly light sword. 100 by now? 200? Another month of meh. Pass

Re: I had an exciting Super Bowl Sunday

Rai #0 -- one of Shooter's final epics. Kind of, but Shooter was ousted before it was scripted so a number of things were changed in the final script. I would still love to read the original script to compare, but I don't think it's ever come out. However maybe it did as it's been many years since ...

Re: Bad Idea Promises to Change the Comic Book Industry Status Quo

I LOVE no variants, no digital, no trades. Shows they value the form of the comic book. I've thought for a while that although variants, trades, and digital have obvious benefits (selling more duplicate copies to hardcores and wider availability) they also have costs that might not be as obvious, es...

Re: Predator vs. Magnus Robot Fighter

My limited understanding is that the Predator franchise considers it non-canon, and with understandable reasons. But, that's THEIR canon. I'd prefer to think on our end it stays. I'm pretty sure the X-O ring that's featured in MvP comes into play in later issues of Magnus and Rai, so definitely in ...

Re: Predator vs. Magnus Robot Fighter

I saw that Shooter wrote it, so I assumed that it came out earlier in 1992. IIRC Shooter was writing it when he was ousted, so the new Magnus writer John Ostrander wrote the script from Shooter's plot. It's a really fun story, and I've always loved the dynamic and moody Lee Weeks art. But there are...

Re: Official Bloodshot Trailer is here!

Wow I admit I was skeptical but this looks cool. From the trailer it looks like a good mix of Bourne Identity with Philip K. Dick "what is real" sci-fi, if done right it's always a crowd-pleaser. Would have really loved to see at least one money shot of Vin in a full Bloodshot superhero pose. Too ba...

Re: Yesterday I bought my very first pre-Unity Magnus (#13)

so for 95 cents I grabbed DAGAR THE INVINCIBLE although I don't see an issue number. Was it a one-shot? Dagar is a fun series, the issue numbers for Gold Key comics are hidden in the fine print on page one. As for pre-Unity, try to track down Magnus 1-4, Solar 1-4, Harbinger 1-4, and X-O 1-2. Those...

It said he was retiring from comic books at age 92. Even though he obviously wasn't still active in the industry, I imagine he was doing the occasional commission and whatnot.

Re: Hmm....is the real old Nintendo Valiants called VH1 too?

I used to ignore them but recently I've come to appreciate them. If you're a fan of Pre-Unity Valiant it's cool to see the genesis of the 'Pre-Unity style': fixed grid layouts, clear storytelling over flashy artwork, bright watercolor coloring, a mix of industry veterans (Ditko, Gray Morrow, Nichols...

Re: Print run of catalyst prime superb. Lion forge

Catalyst Prime is a mystery to me , they only show up on the very bottom of the Comichron chart shipping numbers under 1000. There's no way that can even pay for a print run, let alone creative teams, editors, etc. I assume they must have some deep pocket funder, but even then how can you justify c...
