I haven't been here in a few weeks, so imagine my surprise to read this news. In that time, I've checked in with Newsarama and Comic Book Resources on a semi-regular basis (mainly just to read the headlines), and I don't remember seeing this there even once. Other than BleedingCool.com, have any oth...

VEI does not need to come up with knock-off characters and that is very cheezy. They own Phil [His alter ego-Solar was only in respect to his favorite comic book] problem solved. Magnus would be missed but could easily crossover from time to time as well as turok [however I dont think turok will be...

What VEI should do is what they had to do on the Legion of Super-Heroes back in the early '90s when they were told to remove Superboy and Supergirl from Legion continuity: create replacement characters. Yeah, I know it wasn't great having Valor (formerly Mon-El) and Andromeda retconned into every ol...

For people that paid an awful lot of money for Valiant, they have very little to show for it. I hate to say it, especially on a board where the benefit of the doubt has been very, very forgiving towards the owners, but this is what happens when non-publishing professionals get involved with publishi...

I don't see what's so hard to understand. Classic Media controlled Turok, Magnus, and Solar. Classic Media was then bought by Entertainment Rights. The guys that ran Classic Media then started their own company called Boomerang Media. Boomerang then bought Classic Media and Entertainment Rights and ...

Current Status of Turok, Solar, Magnus Resolved
The long and winding road has taken the characters right back where they once were. Please note the dates which preceed each quote, all of which are taken from ICV2.com, as noted in the links: From ICV2.com: http://www.icv2.com/articles/news/9767.html Published: 12/15/2006 12:00am "According to...

I e-mailed MHC three times and they never got back to me. I finally disputed the charge with my cc company and they refunded me the amount of the purchase. about 2 weeks after that I get a phone call form MHC asking what is the deal as I received the comics there should not have been a problem (the...

It also just occurred to me that back when Golden Books Family Entertainment (formerly Western Publishing) was bought by the combination of Random House and Classic Media, the value there - the reason for the purchase - was the numerous Little Golden Books that had been published over the years. I m...

I don't THINK [/u] that Classics Media owns them anymore (and I might be wrong so don't hold me to that) the rights were sold to a British company called Entertainment Rights and it's ER that is in trouble. The rights weren't sold to Entertainment Rights - ER bought Classic Media , lock, stock and ...

Exciting times indeed. But, how much would this cost? A song or a mint? It'll be interesting to track this. If Entertainment Rights does go belly up, I doubt if the assets will be auctioned off piecemeal. It'll be everything all at once as one big lot, and given that Entertainment Rights had to bor...

Magnus, Solar, Turok owner in trouble
From ICV2.com: http://www.icv2.com/articles/news/14034.html "British company Entertainment Rights, which owns Casper, the Lone Ranger, She-Ra, Gumby, and a host of other characters, is running out of time to find new investment or an acquirer to avoid going out of business. The company loaded u...

You snooze, you lose, VEI. If they just assumed that Classic Media would license them the characters, they were dead wrong. Honestly, the Solar and Magnus licenses are things which they should have locked down long ago. For all we know, they tried and failed. For all we know, they didn't try at all....

Hellboy DVDs for sale!
Yeah, I know, it's not Valiant, but I've got two Hellboy animated DVDs for sale. For $15 plus shipping, you can get BOTH Sword of Storms and Blood & Iron. I'm selling them together, not individually, and they're brand new, unused (still factory sealed), so if you're interested, just post here an...

I really liked Plasm, too. Fun to draw. It was always a Dr. Seuss world to me. The problem there was the market was peaking when we were developing Defiant and collapsing as we started to release. Combined with the #0 issue card project (which would have been cool if the greedy card *BLEEEEEP* didn...

Let's just hope they don't hold the comic book publishing rights as well. I doubt it. All they need are the media rights, and it would be stupid for Classic Media to give them those, as well. On the other hand, I could see them getting all the rights as a package deal because Classic Media didn't c...

Am I to guess that Classic Media is affiliated with Gold Key somehow? Or maybe they're the current owners of Solar, Magnus, and Turok? Here's how all of that works: Western Publishing used to package comics for Dell. Long story short, they split and decided to publish their comics themselves. They ...
