Re: VH 1 Can Never Come Back
I disagree on two points. On the one hand, yes - VH1 can never come back - it was a specific product of its place and time, and I'm guessing most fans who were nostalgic for it are like me -- mid-teens at the time, but now into middle age. VH1 may have technically been around for 6 years (1991-1996)...

I went to a small local con today and was gratified to find some scattered pre-Unity issues among the bargain boxes. I picked up the following for $10 apiece. Harbinger # 2 Harbinger # 4 Rai # 4 Rai # 9 (gold) Likely a fair price (~1/2 of market value) but absolutely astonishing, given that I rememb...

Re: I've deciphered the Deathmate reading order.
So... I finally moved my childhood VH1 collection out of my childhood home - and have begun inventorying the ~30 or so VH1 books I'm missing. Discovered just an hour ago that my Deathmate collection was woefully incomplete - with my only Gold I have being the Prologue (the most common, natch) - and ...

Re: Gold Key Magnus set complete!
CGC 9.4 Magnus #1 (1963) is a ridiculously awesome book. A holy grail for Silver Age Valiant precursors. (Only a single 9.6 grades higher, but I'm partial to the old label CGC books, personally.) :thumb: Thanks, Greg! I know the 9.4 # 1 is where the value is, but I'm super proud of the: 9.8 ...

Re: Just One Comic From Valiant In May 2023– And It's X-O Manowar #3
The original art cover to X-O Manowar # 4 (the Pre-Unity, BWS one) is up for sale in this month's Comiclink auction. And the description basically refers to Valiant Comics in the past tense, noting: "Valiant returned in 2012 for a second successful run that continued for a decade." https:/...

Never mind - just saw it's the other sig. you couldn't identify.
Looking at the full list of folks involved in Unity shown in my Vol. 2 back inside cover, my best guess is it says "St. Pierre" - for Joe St. Pierre.

Re: Diamond Unity Trade - Signatures
Thank you!
That last signature is likely Maria Becarri - the Valiant Wiki notes she was a colorist, primarily on Harbinger beginning with issue 5 -- and she also assisted with the cover art for Harbinger # 16-40.
And...you've got a lot more than just 4 sigs.
Good stuff!

Diamond Unity Trade - Signatures
Has anyone posted - or does anyone know - an inventory of the folks who signed the two Diamond Unity trades? From my brief searches online, each book, Vol. 1 & 2, came with at least 2 signatures, and could have up to 4 signatures. I'm wondering if folks here have a full list of potential signatu...

Re: The Price is Right - Frank Miller Shadowman - $73,850?
Interesting.
I've been thinking about the Miller Unity covers recently.
And specifically lusting after Eternal Warrior # 1.
But yeah - I never really liked Miller's Sin City period with the blockiness. Weird to think what I considered his "new" period as a teen is now 30 years old...

Re: Some foreign Gold Key comics
These are amazing! I put together a full set of the Mexican (Domingos Allegres) Magnus reprints (# 1-28) a few years ago, but the average grade is maybe 3.0. Added some French and Turkish reprints as well. But your Magnus books alone put mine to shame. And I've never seen the Solar or Turok books! N...

From VH1, but I recall being mocked ~10 years ago when I expressed sadness that the original Ninjak title ended mid-storyline.
Apparently no one much was reading that title after issue 20 or so (or...to be fair, maybe issue 10).

Re: Magnus #5 (1991) cover sells for $10,000+
Yeah - I thought about it when it was still holding at $4,200. I am, after all, Rai-fan.
But $10k+ seems insane to me, esp. when the X-O # 1 & # 2 covers each sold a few years ago for more like $7500 apiece.

Re: Q's regarding Harbinger #0 (1992)
It's unfortunate that Harbinger 0 was such a lackluster issue. It was obviously a post-Unity production (unlike Magnus 0 which was produced before Mag 1, probably a year or so before it was released), and it seems like some of Lapham's first work as a writer. He gets much better as we see in Stray ...

Re: Q's regarding Harbinger #0 (1992)
From some quick online research, sources note both Harbinger 0 (pink) and the trade paperback (1st, bagged with Harbinger 0 blue) were released in December, although the pink version has "Feb. 1993" in the indicia. This makes sense in terms of being contemporaneous with Shadowman # 10 or s...

Re: Was everyone sleeping on this?
I didn't even consider that book, because 1) I already have a pristine raw copy of it, and 2) I was so busy tracking the CGC 9.8 2018 Shadowman 1 Metal edition beneath it. The other books I bid on this week were the three copies of Harbinger 1 (QR code). 9.6 (signed), 9.6 and 9.4. I was the underbid...

Re: Magnus #0 (1992) in the industry news...
It's my favorite Valiant book. Great cover, early send-away, and I'll always remember when it was a $55 wall book.
More than 25 years later, I've now got on the order of 20 copies.

Re: Hmm...why did VH1 work but Shooters New Universe fail?
Agreed that Alpha Flight seemed just like a blatant money-grab at the time. And that much of what made Valiant comics work were that they were largely under-the-radar prior to Unity. The "these-are-worth-money" thing is what blasted them into the mainstream. I'm the poster boy for this. My...

Re: Valiant V1 prices
I doubt the Shadowman 8 print run is appreciably larger than that of EW # 4, since it came out just one month later. As the above list shows, the only major Valiant books that have heat right now are those with direct (or, soon-to-be-presumed) movie tie-ins. Also, random question, but why the high a...

Re: Harbinger 1 9.8 Price Changes
Fair. I knew guys back in the day who had "untouched cases" of X-O # 1 (like 200+ NM copies around Jan. 1993), but *never* early Harbingers. All things being equal, though, I'd rather have a 9.8 Solar 10. Haven't looked up the value in 20 years, but that *seemed* like the tough book back i...
