Re: Crossgen Comics appreciation and memories thread.

Brath - Who was looking for a Braveheart/Gladiator mash-up? With whole scenes taken right from Gladiator? I don't know Braveheart well enough to recognize, but I assume from there too? This is wholly unoriginal but an easy read. DiVito's art at the onset was pretty awesome. There was a shift to ear...

Re: Crossgen Comics appreciation and memories thread.

Frustrated. Wrote this once already this morning and somehow lost it. Way of the Rat - At first I thought this just wasn't a book for me. After looking up his work history, I realize I've never been a fan of his art - a whole lot of linework, but nothing in a panel is the focus. But the longer this ...

Re: Crossgen Comics appreciation and memories thread.

Just read all 24 issues of The Path in 3-4 days. These books are so amazingly decompressed. For most of the first 20 issues, each one is a single scene that would be 3-4 pages in any other company's books. I lost track of how many issues spent the entire issue restating the premise of the series for...

Superhero, multiverse fun that Valiant rarely plays with. Good stuff that probably won't play well here.

Story has barely moved in four issues. Dialogue is tedious and one-note. Art degrades with every issue.

I didn't mind that you guys dove deep into this. It just didn't cross my mind. I really dig the perspective you've brought to the podcast. It's not all pie in the sky like some. It's not politically biased like some. It's just a comic fan digging what he digs. And being honest about what he doesn't.

Re: Rai #5 (2019) Discussion

Yeah, talking about comic (new or old) content seems extinct here. Keep it to slab, back issue sales, and a whole other publisher. I listened to VCR yesterday and those guys all had issues with plot points. I didnt think twice about what they were complaining about. I'm really enjoying the story. Ot...

Re: The Bloodshot Movie Reviews are in...

The snippets from Rotten Tomatoes. And these are the good AND bad critic reviews. Which, including the Newsarama one, pretty much all sound exactly like what the trailers looked like. If Vin Diesel were a 12-year-old boy, he couldn't have dreamt up a better movie for his fan base than "Bloodshot." W...

"Retailer Editions" question

I got my hands on my first "Retailer Edition" #1. This one happens to be Ninja-K and scored it and some other variants for $1 a piece.

It has 10 pages of uninked, uncolored art. Are all the Retailer Editions previews and not full copies of the issues? I'm not disappointed, just curious.

Thanks!

(Re-)Reading Acclaim

Fabian takes over and restarts the universe. Sort of. It’s an admirable attempt and (mostly) far better than history and critics lead me to believe. I had only read Q&W and the 1999 stuff when it came out. Pretty much everything else was new to me. The titles are listed in the order in which they we...

Re: Quantum & Woody (2020) #2 Discussion

And after listening to VCR, I think my biggest problem lies with every VEI/DMG title turning Q&W into inept, slapstick archetypes and not the VERY human, very damaged, but actually skilled (in their own ways) Q&W Priest created and succeeded with.

Quantum & Woody (2020) #2 Discussion

The story comes off as trying to be weird and funny but isn't interesting or humorous. The art doesn't fit the book at all. Mostly this was just a chore to get through.

1) No skewing. Just straight math. Source data could be problematic, but it's the go-to source for this site. 2) I'd say that most physical collectibles or items are now considered boutique with boutique pricing. It's where we are now, particularly with the millennial and post-millennial generation ...

Re: Dan DiDio Ousted From DC Comics

-Sales are down, and this isn't being hyperbolic - sales are down year after year. No they aren't. Not sure why this myth is perpetuated regularly. At least not the industry as a whole. Can't speak towards DC alone. I mean, I could see it as DC and Didio went super-insular story telling the last 20...

Re: Dan DiDio Ousted From DC Comics

If it's the same source I've seen thrown around, they've been claiming DC's death is around the corner for years. Fear mongers.

And considering the creator that keeps getting sourced, there's no legitimate source for this story.

I dont think VEI was perfect but just redoing the same thing?

Sounds like you could just re-read the first two years of 90s books and be content.

My post on a friend's FB link to the story.

I completely bailed on DC 10 years ago with the New 52 and was mostly on the way out for a few years before that. I feel like part of that was Didio's influence on the line.

This issue made it clear to me that Brett Booth isn't the best option for this type of story.

Re: Official Bloodshot Trailer is here!

I somehow missed any discussion of this getting a PG-13 rating. How the heck is that gonna be true to the comic. I basically wanted to watch this for 2 reasons: 1. Vin Diesel stabbing a dude in the neck with his own broken radius/ulna 2. Eating a full on live cow to replenish nanites. I now don't i...
