Re: Vinyl
If you could own only one deluxe, special-edition reissue of a vinyl LP, The White Album would likely be your best choice. It's a high water mark for 20th century popular music. I'm not sure what other albums have its combination of top-level composition and execution, widespread public acclaim and ...

Re: Undervalued Gems
Does anybody know why there’s been a hike in the asking and selling prices for Lucio Parrillo regular and variant covers this summer? Some of his Red/Queen Sonjas from 7-10 years ago have suddenly become quite overpriced, in my opinion. Maybe the new Marvel Conan titles steered new people toward his ...

Re: 20+ years of Valiant website... too frustrating?
Sometimes I think about selling off parts of my complete, regular issue 91-16 run. Then I see stuff like Valiant 101, and I know the run is going nowhere. Great job as always, Greg.

Re: "Joe Illidge, No Longer Executive Editor at Valiant"
A guess: DMG USA hasn’t been trying to make money via Valiant, they’ve been trying to lose money. A structured loss to offset taxable profits somewhere else.

Re: Ten most important VALIANT issues
I'd say that from both a reader's perspective and a historic perspective, the most important set of Valiant issues is the entire original Unity series. It's the best superhero crossover arc I've read (regardless of publisher), because, essentially, it's a SF novel fanned out across several comic ...

Looks like an Acclaim-era relaunch to me, but blander than V2. Pass.

+1. Close call between Divinity and 4001 for me, though. That series aged well, because it seems more substantial now than it did when it came out.Summydad1 wrote:Rai and Divinity all the way!

I wonder if a forced ownership change for DMG could eventually open a way for Dinesh & Co. to buy back Valiant.

Re: Complaining About Quantum & Woody
I gotta stick up for Q&W! It's been a long time since I read Asmus's run, but I loved a lot of his first year's issues. His stuff was so baldly absurd, satiric and (more than) occasionally stupid, it made a nice alternative to the other monthlies I was reading at the time. The Montana arc really ...

Re: To all those saying they are thinking of quitting Valian
Holy cow. After being away from this site for awhile, I've just spent the last hour reading about the DMG buyout and their ejection of Mr. Shamdasani from the company he built. I'm compelled to leave a note about an encounter I had with Mr. S at NYCC a few years ago. Late on a Sunday afternoon, I ...

Re: Ongoing Books/series you won't read
Try reading "Conan the Barbarian" 100, from 1979, to test out whether you're interested in reading a Marvel-era run. A zillion copies were printed, so it's still a cheap, easy find. If you like the Roy Thomas and John Buscema combo, grab more of their stories: they're the standard-setters, and any ...

Thanks for the post! Testing it out, I like the app not only for its Valiant info, which is really helpful, but for the Daredevil news I've gotten from it. I have many DD keys, but the app quickly zeroes me in on some that I don't.

This run and the Perez/Byrne era of Avengers got me hooked on buying monthly comics when I was in grade- and middle-school. I bought 111 off a rotating rack at a convenience store and began a subscribing a short time later. I remember a bunch of these arriving at the house (often rolled up and ...
