Re: Book of the Month - May 2015

My top 2 votes are for Imperium #4 and Ivar #5, but I can't really declare which is better than the other for I think these are the two best VEI titles at the moment. Imperium is rich and complex while Ivar is just a blast to read, so fun. As for the rest: X-O remains the most consistent for me, V-d...

Re: Ivar, Timewalker #6

What's the white dot that forms and evaporates in the time loop? I took that to be a tear from Neela's crying as she ran over the lab's walkway. I also think this was solid confirmation of Harada's vision being achieved. You have the blood-red nanite being, the space elevator from his vision (which...

Re: X-O Manowar #37 a.k.a. the finale of Dead Hand

One of the reasons why X-O often feels like a thin read is that there's not much left to think about. There's no particular moral dilemma with the final battle that needs to be thought about by either Aric or the reader. There's juts the fight. Well stated. As I've said previously, X-O always reads...

Re: Preview: That book I dont get to read because I wont pay

first time i've ever read a preview. I stay away from previews, even those in the back of the issues because I don't like to be spoiled as much as possible. Of course, that's for books that I read so since I'm not buying this book, let's read it then....Interesting but still not worth the jacked-up...

Re: Best New-Era "British Invader"?

Of the four on this list, my top vote is for Warren Ellis. His concepts are high-brow but not too over the top or meta (as Morrison can be) and his characterizations tend to be very strong. Also, he's very adaptable to multiple genres. For me, Morrison is too hit-or-miss. When he hits, he's utterly ...

Re: Ivar, Timewalker #5

Also, it does seem strange that future Neela needs past Neela to invent this tech so badly. I don't think she ever does. I think Ivar stopped her, and even her evil future self can't figure out how she was about to do it...if that was even the truth. Maybe Ivar lied about that all together? She obv...

So, what exactly is her deal? She's cursed? She foments chaos whenever she goes? Immortal with super-strength? Given her history here, is she as an experienced warrior as Gilad? The cuss words were distracting. Used sparingly, they're alright, but here as every other word? It makes reading this issu...

Re: Ninjak #3 Discussion

Well, again, we have the disconnect on the first page between the tech of his battle boots and the personality insights alongside them. I hope these are reprinted in the eventual TPB. This issue was fun, the tech is a bit outlandish but the tension of the story and Kindt's inner monologue for Colin ...

Re: Bloodshot Reborn #2 Discussion

The art in this title so far has been amazing, the story itself has been interesting, Bloodsquirt is still creepy (did Ray buy those fireworks knowingly or subconsciously?) but as not as creepy as Kay is turning out to be (that last page was really striking). But where is PRS in this story? The addi...

Re: What I'd like to see in Unity: Disunity

I think part of what is hindering this team is lack of a clear purpose or mission. For example, they are sent to confront Divinity, a person with god-like powers, yet as far as I can tell, Harada and his rogue goals are beneath their notice. So what level of threat deserves their intervention? Plus,...

With all the concepts and ploys in action here in this issue, I just want to say that Kozol is one heartless *SQUEE*. Even being a filler issue, V-ditti does a great job here. The hive mind scenes were great, seeing Aric challenge the other armors to stand up and fight instead of avoiding it (which I thought was a nice twist on why they signaled Shanhara over the approaching Dead Hand to Loam). Bernard's art is ver...

Re: Unity #18

As an issue by itself I loved his, but as a mystery teased for months it kind of fell flat. It was a desert scuffle that lasted five minutes. That said, Malgam being around more can only be good, Palmer was written well and the next arc was set up nicely. Hopefully Malgam becomes a permanent XO rep...

Re: Recommended Reads for "Daredevil"

Miller is often credited for finding the 'true' DD. Before Miller, DD was sometimes described as a 'poor man's Spider-Man', lacking a distinctive focus and with a weaker rogues gallery. Miller corrected that by injecting noir elements into the character and mythos. So anything concerning DD, start w...

Re: Dead Drop #1...

This issue was kinda of a mixed mess. Yes, Aric shouldn't have had this much trouble catching a running girl (who I assumed was performing some parkour in this chase?) unless, as some have speculated, the armor has been infected somehow. I do like how Aric is continuing to adjust to modern life, his...

And so goes my biggest reason for considering going this year. Oh well, there's always next year.
