Re: Live Chat With Jim Shooter - Monday August 15th - 8:30PM

I'm with Knob Row Joe on this. I believe Jim Shooter. Some history... A few weeks after Jim's departure from Valiant Voyager, Paul Suntup, the owner of Fantamania, South Africa's first comic shop, and a strong Valiant fan, interviewed Jim telephonically from South Africa for the shop's newsletter. I...

Re: Hillary Clinton in Faith #5

I do have a slight problem with Clinton appearing in Faith, but it has nothing to do with politics. Not being American, I can only view current US politics as a somewhat surreal and rather disappointing TV reality show. Support for Clinton would be natural for Faith -- after all, Faith is kinda naiv...

HASTINGS BANKRUPTCY: HOW WILL IT AFFECT VALIANT?

As I don't live in the USA, I have no idea what kind of weight Hastings had with regard to monthly comic book sales. I'm aware that Hastings brought out several VEI exclusive variant covers, which seems to indicate that the chain must have been an important outlet for VEI. Does anyone have any thoug...

Re: Celebrating Jim Shooter's 50 Years in Comics

My thanks to all involved. Wonderful. And it's good to see Jim looking well. I owe a lot to that man. I first encountered him through Marvel Age magazine and quickly became aware of the great things he was doing at Marvel -- stories that made sense again, for example, and, most of all, Epic Magazine...

Re: Meeting JS June 9th... need input

Hey Joe! It's been a long long time since our exchange of e-mails over at VEO. I'm delighted you're still involved with Valiant matters -- and with Jim. While I doubt Jim would want to get involved with Valiant again -- I think he kinda signed off on VH1 and VH2 with his Unity 2000, and his stay at ...

Re: I might be out on Valiant

As some of you may remember from last year, I declared that I was dropping Valiant because of the BoD:LotG incentive. I’m a story completist and this was just not on! Greg jumped on me with big boots, and Paradise Ed slapped me around a bit (metaphorically speaking, of course). Anyway, off I went to...

Thanks for the advice, Ed -- and I'm not being sarcastic, believe me, because while I may not always agree with you, I like your attitude. Plus I like your website! Anyway... As I tried to point out, life for comic collectors outside the States is not easy and never has been. Yes, I could do as you ...

Re: New Thread: book of legends

Re: Book of Death: Legends of the Geomancer

Sorry, Greg. It may be logic, but I consider it flawed logic. Who is this "team" you talk about? VEI and us? Okay, that analogy may be suitable. A team works together and the team members look out for one another. The coach expects his players to give their all -- but the players expect th...

Re: Book of Death: Legends of the Geomancer

So it looks like "Legends" will be allocated on a 1:25 basis for #1, and subsequently at a 1:10 ratio for the subsequent issues... Okay. So, FWIW, here's what I'll be doing... I'll be dropping all of my Valiant titles prior to the "Book of Death" event, which is all nine monthlie...

Re: Book of Death: Legends of the Geomancer

I'm with lorddunlow on this one. I too support my LCS, which is much the same as his. But there are too few Valiant customers, even though the guy in charge pushes Valiant every chance he gets. But there's just too much product out there -- prices being what they are, customers stick to what they kn...

Re: Book of Death: Legends of the Geomancer

I'm not happy about this at all... If retailers can obtain one for each Book of Death ordered, fine, but somehow it doesn't seem like this is going to be the case. My LCS chain doesn't have many Valiant customers (7-8?) and isn't going to pump up orders for Book of Death issues. Like many others, it...

BugsySig: A very balanced comment and very true. No late books. High quality production. And as you say:

The fact that this is a shared universe has to be in the forefront of everything VEI does now.

I quite agree.

Please?

Re: Consistency. Stability.

I'm glad to have discovered this post and thread. The topic is something I've been considering for quite some time. Currently I am in the process of dropping all DC and Marvel titles, something made much easier by the Convergence and Secret Wars events, and prompted by the self-serving hype from Did...

Re: Do You Want The GK3 Characters At VEI?

I voted yes. Because (nostalgia kicking in) the VEI universe (VH3?) doesn't seem complete without the GK3. I want Seleski somewhere out there, doing his cosmic Woody Allen thing; I want at least one >SQUEE< sound effect in 4001; and Turok? I prefer Joshua Fireseed, who could fit quite easily in both...

Re: Divinity #1 Discussion

It took a while before I got around to reading this issue. And then I read it again. And again. I think and certainly hope we may be looking at a new 'Alpha & Omega". The pacing is excellent, the story delightfully enigmatic, and I certainly don't want answers up-front. I liked the art very...

Re: 2013 VALIANT PREVIEW TRADING CARD SET

Not for me, I'm afraid. I'm getting some heavy deja-vu here. Anyone recall the old days when Valiant, Defiant, and others hit us with something similar again and again? As much as I love Valiant, as much as I try to be something of a Valiant completist (excluding variant covers), I'll be giving this...

Great great stuff! I have them all, plus the TPBs -- and even (how sad is this?) the Goat Inaction Figure! But the one to read and savor is Q&W #0 (Woody's confession about Amy Fishbein!) I would have loved to have Priest back (and yes, I loved his Black Panther), but I'm still looking forward t...

Variants... Oh boy. These were something I hated about the 'old' Valiant. I know it was necessary for the company then to make a mark in the industry and to generate collector excitement, but it did help fuel the speculation frenzy with the result that, when it collapsed, the name of the company was...

Re: VALIANT March 2013 Sales Discussion

I agree that I'd like to see a limit to the number of regular titles VE puts out a month. For me, eight monthlies would be just right -- after all, if memory serves, that's the way it was at the time of Unity. But I'd be happy with ten, as long as the quality of all is maintained. I'm not against mi...
