Re: UNITY RED 9.8 !!!

Anyone got an extra $350?

http://pedigreecomics.com/detail.php?issue_id=18542 it's a little high steve but not too god awful. What percent does pedigree take of the sale?

Pedigree will charge 10%...plus Doug will pay for the slabbing charges upfront. He also manages to get his books back ...

I think you're missing the point. Sure, I might appear to have an axe to grind, BUT there is a basis of truth in my opinions. I have no need to make things up in regard to the 'smoke and mirrors' behind CGC. Everyone wants to avoid discussing their practices like the big white elephant in the corner ...

There are two base reasons not to like CGC.

(1) You are afraid to find the raw books in your collection are not as good as you think.

(2) You are a CGC-phobic seller and cannot believe that a snotnosed mouth-breathing fanboy will not trust you when you say, "but it's MINT".

(3) You took a trip ...

My meeting consisted of much more than a discussion on pedigree designation. I had a long conversation about other pedigrees AND their grading procedures (at least as much as Mark would comfortably say). I am disappointed with some of my grades, but I was disappointed with what I saw and heard at ...

I respect your point of view, Chris, and I'm not saying I hate CGC. It's just that they ARE human and prone to the occasional mistake in judgement. My personal experiences are mixed. I've used them and probably will again, but not without my personal observations and criticisms. I have been in their ...

If some inconsistency like you claim comes to light (and I believe it absolutely will if it is there), I fell confident the market will dictate that CGC go away.

I just find it hard to believe that there is any kind of bias like your referenced way back up the chain here that the market has not ...

It is run by humans. Your books are graded by humans. Humans make mistakes EVERYDAY.

I referenced (or at least tried to reference) human error in my post noting that I make changes in my own grading. When a company uses multiple graders, there HAS to be consistency issues. However, I believe ...

I wouldn't be a bit surprised if CGC splinters into two or more Grading Companies (of no association) in the not-to-distant future. They know the market is ripe for it, and they're trying their best to keep the status quo.

If you can spot ANY defects, forget about anything higher than a 9.6.

Just speaking from my own experiences with CGC.

I have heard people say things like this before, but doesn't this just negate CGC as a reliable entity?

Unforunately, the answer is yes, in my opinion.

I mean, isn't that what their existence is all about...consistency?

That's a fairytale they want you to believe. Truth is they grade by a ...

I could be 100% wrong. I'm just going by your scan. It is hard to see just what the spine looks like. It appears to have color breaks along it. Does it? If so, that is going to lessen your grade. If it's just your scan, and the spine is fine and supple, you could grade in the high 9's.

If you find it hard to believe, may I suggest you write directly to Doug Schmell of Pedigree comics, and ask him yourself. Not only does he own the highest graded Marvel collection on the planet, he was also one of the dealers CGC contacted when they first started up. CGC isn't some unfailing entity ...

Who owns the copyrights for the materials published in Previews and Advance Comics? Including character profiles, serialized stories, and promo art, there is enough material to put together a 64 page special issue. As I recall, there was a ton of cool stuff every month.

CGC goes easier on Moderns, Marvels in particular. I see color breaks along the spine, but I've also seen Moderns with color breaks on the spine get a 9.6. Look at the DRACULA #70 on the www.pedigreecomics.com website, for example. My personal guess would be a 9.2...with CGC you NEVER know for sure ...
