Re: Only The Valiant Podcast

In reference to episode #151, I don't believe that Livewire could be a Vine. The reason? We were at some point told that the X-O armor can't be used by Vine at all, and that the reason that a human could use it while the Vine could not is not that the human is the chosen one, but that it was intende...

Re: Only The Valiant Podcast

About the question of whether Eternal Warrior's granddaughter is just a normal person, in issue 5 when they're poisoned by radiation he says "I'm an immortal and you're my granddaughter. We might actually live." Granted, he might just be trying to make her feel better by lying, but he hasn...

Re: Only The Valiant Podcast

For the question about non-extraterrestrial aliens, I asked a question on Law and the Multiverse about where X-O would have citizenship: http://lawandthemultiverse.com/2013/04/01/y-the-last-man/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; It didn't occur to me that Aric would actually b...

Re: Only The Valiant Podcast

I believe the world's largest comics panel is the cover of Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe Deluxe Edition (1980's). Dozens of issues all combined together to form a single (very wide, not very tall) panel, which was larger than the Solar comics panel.

Again, the problem with the "hiatus" idea is that these are licensed books. No company would ever put a licensed book on hiatus barring special circumstances, because if they're putting it on hiatus, they're making no money from it but they still have to pay for the license.

I don't think a "hiatus" makes any sense as anything other than a cancellation. It's a licensed book, which means they're paying money for it. A real hiatus (with the possibility of restarting it later) would mean that they are still paying the money yet not putting anything out.

I sort of wish that when Gayle asked who he was he replied "Have you ever read 'Watchmen'? It's like that, except I'm from the 1950's".

Hawking radiation can be a slow process. It doesn't happen all at once and it is not generally something that will cause a black hole to dissolve rapidly. If the black hole took millions of years to evaporate, sure. But in context this was about evaporating in a couple of seconds or minutes. That w...

It would be possible for a black hole to evaporate like a puddle of water. That is what Hawking radiation is. No, because Hawking radiation is still radiation. When the black hole evaporates, the entire energy/mass content of the black hole is released as Hawking radiation. An 80 kg black hole woul...

And by the way, I always thought Solar #0-10 was about the best science I'd ever read in a superhero comic. Until this. In fact this story has terrible science. There are minor things, but one of the bigger ones is that when we speak of a black hole "evaporating", that means that the blac...

The name "Nuro" uses sounds that exist in Japanese (which lacks a lot of sounds). However, a search on wwwjdic did not show it as an actual Japanese surname.

I found this much better than the other issues. I think this was a bad choice of initial storyline (combined with the art problems in #1). The problem is the main group of antagonists are inherently one-note caricatures by concept . It's very hard to do any real character development or interaction ...

It's all 5-6 panels per page all roughly the same size and layout. To me, that even goes further to give this book the feel of a 60s comic (dated, not in a good way). That's not on the artist, that's mainly from the script. Yeah, but didn't Valiant Comics do that and succeed tremendously? (Maybe wi...

Yeah, it's a trap, but it's one thing to take risks herself, it's another to put other people at risk. Magnus kept a secret ID because not having one (or so he believes) is dangerous. Endangering him is totally irresponsible--what's to prevent the next robot villain from sending a flunky full of exp...

I thought it was pretty good, but it very much needed to lose the chunk of exposition where Magnus gets told things he already knows, but which we the audience don't yet.

Also, why in the world does Leeja blow his secret identity on air?
